Another reason for my visit to the D&I was the chance to see their GP50's on a train. SD40-2's are their preferred power, but GP50's and even their remaining GP9's or a GP39-2 may also get a turn leading. With the GP50's being replaced this year, I was hoping to see at least one train with one leading. I did get a four-axle locomotive leading the northbound empty train from Sioux City with an even better surprise; a GP39-2-GP9-GP39-2-SD40-2 consist, starting my chase from Westfield to Chatsworth. The GP39-2's are former Kennecott Copper, having funky lower cab roof lines and smaller fuel tanks.
Conrail OI-85 crosses the Raritan River viaduct behind a three-unit consist not often seen on the Northeast Corridor in New Jersey. Picking up where the previous photo caption left off, OI-85's two GP40-2s returned light from Midway to County interlocking in New Brunswick where they grabbed an outlawed ME-2 consist off the Millstone Industrial which included CSXT 4406, caboose CR 22137 and 16 cars. The entire train was headed back to Oak Island yard where this odyssey began earlier in the day. I assume at some point overnight the 4406 (or another geep) and 22137 were returned to Metuchen Yard where they would be needed for Monday's ME-2.

Assembly of the Frozen LEGO set, Parts Bag #2, consisting of the first floor of the Ice Castle. It has the kitchen and Ice Cream Parlor, spiral staircase, and tree with hanging icicles.
I got the new LEGO Disney Princess Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle from one of my local Target stores on Sunday December 14, 2014. It's official release date is January 1, 2015, but it started appearing in Target stores in the US several days ago. It costs $39.99, has 292 parts, and is Set 41062. It consists of a three story Ice Castle, Anna, Elsa and Olaf mini figures, a picnic table, a sled, ice skates, skis, an ice hill (slide), and various other accessories.
There are two instruction booklets, that are extensively illustrated, and three plastic bags with the parts. There was also a couple of items not in the bags. I am very impressed with the quality of the set, which is my very first by LEGO. The Anna, Elsa and Olaf figures all require assembly. Their faces are painted very well, but of course are in the Lego style. They are about 2'' high (when assembled), and there is an actual size image of the Elsa figure on the box top.
I show the set boxed, disassembled, and during the assembly. Then I show several scenes inspired by the movie Frozen, using the assembled set.

Unfortunately this will be one of the last shots taken of this all SD40-2 consist as is. The managers decided to have 499 lift a ratty, rusty AC44 and completely swap around power between 499 and 496.

"Located 20m to the North of Pit 1 at the Eastern end, Pit 2 is in "L" shape. This pit was discovered in April 1976, covering an area of 6,000sq.m. It measures 124m long from East to West, 98m wide from North to South and 5m deep.
Different from Pit 1, Pit 2 consists of mixed military forces in four arrays: archers, war chariots, cavalrymen and infantrymen. The four arrays seemed to exist independently, but could be assembled immediately to constitute a complete battle formation during the war times. This reflects the unique strategy of Qin military affairs.
The excavation work of Pit 2 is still continuing. At present a large area of the remnants of the roof beams and small part of the pottery warriors and horses are being exhibited in the pit. It is a rare chance for visitors to enjoy the archaeological digging at the site" -- The Museum of the Terracotta Army

Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) under the auspices of its specialised centre -- Bangladesh Centre for Terrorism Research (BCTR), organised a three day National Workshop titled “Countering Violent Extremism (CVE): Building Resilience and Capacity”, from the 28th to 30th of March 2017. The workshop incorporated participants from multiple stakeholders, including first responders, law enforcement & security agencies, paramilitary forces, media personnel, civil society associates, youth representatives and so on. The event is part of a series of capacity and awareness building interventions that BIPSS and BCTR will be undertaking over a multi-year period, supported by the Government of Canada.
The conference began with the President of BIPSS, Major General ANM Muniruzzaman (retd.) highlighting the need for comprehensive awareness of CVE here in Bangladesh. The first presentation for Day 1 was delivered by Shafqat Munir, Research Fellow, BIPSS & BCTR, on “CVE: A Primer”. The following presentation was made by Chiran Jung Thapa, an independent Security and Defense Analyst on “Violent Extremism: Understanding the Threat Landscape.”
Day 2 consisted of a thought-invoking presentation by Syed Zain Al Mahmood, who covers Bangladesh and other South Asian regional news for The Wall Street Journal, on “The Role of Media in CVE” and another on “Cyber Radicalisation” by Sameer Patil, Fellow, National Security Studies & Director, Centre for International Security, Gateway House.
All presentations featured engaging Q/A sessions. For Day 3, a tabletop exercise kicked off the morning, that created an interactive discussion on the various aspects of #CVE from a nuanced participatory demographic, ranging from groups discussing Media to Cyber.
The event concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony, where the participants were honoured for their involvement by H.E. Benoit-Pierre Laramee, High Commissioner of Canada in Bangladesh, who graced the event as the Chief Guest with Professor Abu Zayed Mohammad, Research Fellow at BIPSS, giving the vote of thanks.

(See links). Built in 1937 when Americans were just beginning to discover the joys and excitement of automobile vacations as a complex of concrete tepees, this quirky motel along Route 31W is 2.8 miles from Dinosaur World and 11.5 miles from the Mammoth Cave National Park Visitor Center.
Wigwam Village #2 - Atlas Obscura
New owners restoring Wigwam Village motel in Cave City with modern touches, historical context - WDRB.com
Established in 1937. One of the few surviving "Wigwam"-themed motels. A series of distinctive landmarks that were erected on historic U.S. Route 66 and other early highways to house tourists who were making their way between Los Angeles and Chicago, the end points of the highway. The Wigwam Motels (or Wigwam Villages) were patented by Frank A. Redford as a way to stand out as more Americans took to the road and motels became increasingly popular.

Wigwam Village Motel No. 2 - Facebook
For the past 84 years, Historic Wigwam Village No. 2 in Cave City, Kentucky, has offered travelers and back-road explorers a fun sleeping experience during during their visits to Mammoth Cave National Park or on their way to nearby Nashville, Tennessee.
Wigwam Village No. 2 - historicwigwamvillage.com
Seven wigwam villages were built between 1936 and the 1950s, but only a couple of them still survive. Although it is not located on historic U.S. Route 66, Wigwam Village # 2, on US 31 W in Cave City, Kentucky, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in March 1988; it is one of the few to survive, along with Wigwam Village # 6 in Arizona and Wigwam Village # 7 in California. Built in 1937, # 2 consisted of 15 wigwams used as guest rooms and a much larger concrete and steel central structure that originally served as a restaurant. Each has a paved area for one car and, altogether, they encircle a recreation and playground area.
