High Crag and High Stiles with Burtness Comb betwixt the two, I’ve had many an adventure across those tops. I can remember a fantastic walk back in October 92. I was with my two oldest boys, Gino 10 and Carlo 8. As we made our way through the Burtness woods we heard am almighty crack of thunder. I told the boys to push on as no rain was forecast, I don’t think they were too convinced. We then got caught in a hail storm and sheltered by a tree in the woods, with a lot of doubt we moved on up to Red Pike. On reaching the summit a snow blizzard ensued, and we continued along the tops in a total whiteout. Navigation was easy as fence posts marked the ridge across all three tops. We made one detour after High Stiles to take a look at Eagle Crag following the cairns. Seeing nothing we made our way back to the fence posts and carried on where I mentioned to Gino that the snow blizzard had changed direction, to which Gino said maybe we have, clever lad. Turning round we soon made High Crag where the blizzard stopped, the wind dropped, still in the clouds we were in perfect calm. We sat down and had tea and Keswick Plum bread on top of High Crag in total whiteness, it was surreal. The boys asked me if this was like being on Everest or K2, I think they were really into todays adventure. After this we made our way down Scarth Gap and back along the shores of Buttermere where we were confronted by a National Trust volunteer touting for memberships, I pointed out to part with £40 pounds was a joint decision between myself and Carla who was conveniently home in Sunderland. You must think I have a good memory, not at all as I journaled all the boys walks through 91,92 1and 93, along with photographs one day I promised to write a book for them, I never have.

16 random things about myself......

1.) I am very clumsy!! (once got my head caught between the car door and front seat.)

2.) I LOVE chocolate. (have been known to steal candy from my own grandchild)

3.) I can get in so much trouble all by myself at home!!! (After cleaning a spot off of our new sofa I had the brilliant idea of blowing the wet spot dry with my blow-dryer. Do not try this! It burned a hole right through the fabric.

4.) I have been 5' 1and 3/4" tall since the fifth grade.

5.) I have four children. One daughter and three sons. My daughter is older than me.

6.) I am 29. That's my story and I am sticking to it!

7.) I am a procrastinator.

8.) I am a perfectionist.

9.) I am very indecisive.

10.) I suppose you have already figured this out. It adds up to a horrible combination.

I can never decide what to do. When I finally do I put it off for as long as possible

and once I do it , it is never good enough!!!

11.) I LOVE being alone. If you do, you get it and if you don't well, it is nothing personal!!

12.) Several years ago we were blessed with a trip to Italy. I felt like a flower that finally bloomed!!! My heart felt like it would burst with excitement, joy and wonder over the beauty. There is something so special and breathtaking about it. It is hands down the most wonderful place I have ever visited.

13.) I do not have any confidence in my abilities. That is why I posted my painting. I thought it would help me not to think it is horrible.

14.) I love my flickr friends. You are so kind and fill a very special place in my heart.

15.) I was kissed on the neck by a Llama at the Baltimore Zoo. It ran up behind me and nuzzled me on the neck. I turned my head to look right into the biggest, most beautiful eyes with the longesttttttttttttttt eye lashes!!!!! lol

16.) I shook hands with a mama and her baby manatee while snorkling in Florida.

die Elbphilharmonie am späten Nachmittag im Licht der untergehenden Sonne.

I had a few spare minutes to shoot one of my work colleges after a discussion we were having about shooting off camera strobe, while at lunch. I just so happened to have my gear in my car, so thought I'd get it out and have a play since the sky was looking a bit on the wicked side at that moment.

Strobist info:

My ambient was knocked down by 1and 2/3 stops, which rendered the f/g interior in total darkness. My final aperture determined the strobe power which I took a stab at, taking into account the flash to subject distance.

I felt like this little girl needed some fill to make her just a little more special; so, I filled her boots with backstitch and her dress and scarf with chainstitch. Background fabric is a Jinny Beyer fabric that a friend gave me.

Thought I would add this photo to Hoop UP since Cathy was in my qroup in round 1and this is her design "Autumn" for Fat Quarterly. Hope I did her justice Cathy!

I've felt a bit of a void since finishing Round 1and during that time I gave some thought as to what I would like learn from the next set. Other than being a little more careful with my selection, I hope to mix it up with different focal lengths, lighting and compositions and perhaps in the process find a style of street portraiture that is challenging & satisfying.

Starting off Round 2 is Dee.

I could not have hoped for a more vibrantly dressed stranger as we crossed paths in the street. I was even more pleasantly surprised to know her personality was even more bright and cheery than her magnificent green outfit that she just "threw on" that morning.

Dee came to Australia from South Africa 31 years ago and despite being here for many years I could still hear a slight accent. Of course, I wasn’t surprised to hear that Dee works as a colour consultant for a company that specialise in colour dying fabrics & clothes. Prior to this she was a teacher, but fashion has been a main theme in her life as her husband heads up one of Australia’s biggest fashion houses.

Dee was in Newtown for the day just checking out the shops and showed a great interest in the project, even suggesting a few places to go in Sydney where I would be sure to find interesting people.

Thanks Dee for being part of my Strangers Project (Rnd 2).

Park Butte Hike - There are incredible views of majestic Mt. Baker and its glaciers throughout the length of this trail. The trail receives extremely heavy use in the summer and fall; come for the scenery not the solitude.

The trail starts in the Mount Baker National Recreation Area. Beginning in lush Schriebers Meadow, the Scott Paul Trail junction about 100 feet down the trail on the right; and the Park Butte Trail enters the Mt. Baker Wilderness just prior to its termination at the Park Butte Lookout. Beginning in lush Schriebers Meadow, it wanders through waist high huckleberries (perfect for fall gathering), heather, and small ponds.

The trail then crosses Rocky Creek. This creek is unbridged and crossing can be challenging during periods of heavy runoff.

After the first mile, the trail climbs and switchbacks through forest, reaching a junction with Scott Paul Trail #603.1. Stay left at the junction to continue along Park Butte Trail to Morovitz Meadows. The expansive views offered at the open meadows make this a popular rest spot.

There are two more trail junctions located in the next section of trail. At the first junction stay go left for the Park Butte Lookout. The fork to the right leads to the Railroad Grade Trail #603.2 and to designated camp sites (7 sites within half-mile and 4 sites at High Camp at 1.5 miles). Three designated hiker camps are located at Cathedral Camp near the junction of Park Butte Trail and Bell Pass trails.

At the second junction that is encountered, stay left for Park Butte. This second fork heading west leads to Mazama Park and the Bell Pass Trail where established campsites are available for stock and hikers. The trail levels out some and passes above picturesque Pocket Lake on the left.

The last half-mile of the trail climbs steeply to the lookout (elevation 5400 feet) and enters the Mt. Baker Wilderness. From the lookout, parties climbing Mt. Baker can be viewed as small, dark figures on the ice and snow. The Twin Sisters range, Glacier Peak, and Mt. Rainier are a few of the many grand peaks that fill the horizon from the lookout.

A volunteer group maintains the lookout. Please respect the building and its contents. Carry drinking water, as none is available at the lookout. Lookout available on a first-come-first–serve basis. Toilet available near lookout. Those persons entering the Mt. Baker Wilderness from the recreation area must adhere to wilderness regulations, including limiting party size to 12. The Park Butte lookout is located just inside the wilderness boundary.

The trail is open to stock from August 1 to November 1and open to llamas all year long. Hitching posts are located below the lookout.

Mt. Baker National Recreation Area is open to snowmobile use when snow depth at the trailhead is at least 24 inches. Depending on snow pack, snowmobile use usually starts in December and closes sometime in June.

A Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.

Lo so che vi piacciono i "making-of"! Hehehe!

-----------------------

I know you like "making-ofs"! Hehehe! I enjoy sharing them with you, too!

We are at the hair-styling phase: in pics 1and 2 you see how I put curlers at the end of every lock: I imagined my Black Sugar Bunny with wavy hair ending with curly locks: these curlers will turn into locks!! (hopefully!)

Pics 3 and 4: THE MUUUUMMY!!!!! Ahahah! I blocked everything that was supposed to remain straight and I styled the locks into braids to obtain the waves. At the last moment I decided I liked a wavyer hair, so I made very tight braids.

I'm working with artificial doll hair I never used before… honestly I don't even remember where I bought this pink lock many years ago… every time I don't know how it will react to treatments and, as a matter of fact...

As you see in pic 5, the braids, plunged into boiling water, became very puffy! Goog heavens!! How will the final effect be? I mean, once the hair will be free from braids and curlers? You will see that in the next "episode"!!

Victoria falls is among the worlds largest waterfalls depending on how you count. At peak water-level it ia about 1and a half kilometers wide. It is broken up in smaller falls here and there though especially when the water-level is a bit lower. Here it even looks like it is a very small but high waterfall but as you can hint to the left the water mist from the falls are seldom far away.

The river - The Zambezi constitutes the border among several countries - At Victoria Falls it is between Zimbabwe and Zambia. This was shot from the Zimbabwe side.

To get some sense of scale the waterfall here is somewhere in the region of 80-105 meters high.

You could watch this Large On Black since that brings out more details. My pictures aren't balanced for a white background.

Yet another attempt at snow ... maybe a new background is in order.

It's amazing how the types of snowflakes change in a short period of time. Big fluffy wet ones to small pebbles of ice. Trick seems to be catching them in between those two states.

Anyway, these flakes were bigger, so 4:1and no need to crop.
