Our way in life should allways be directed to the light, tolerance and love. Let obscurity, obscurantiscme and hatred behind You. We do not need more religion and prayers here in Paris, but light, love, music, fun and champain.

Coming from Santa Maria Di Leuca is another wonderful drive through the countryside, but who am I kidding pretty much any drive off the highway through the backroads of Puglia will leave you wanting more but the urban areas have their charms as well, welcome to Gallipoli The Pearl of the Ionian Sea originally founded by Greeks who named it Kallipolli meaning gorgeous city and they were not kidding.
Captured here is the city beach of Gallipoli enclosed by the ramparts of the city walls and cozy beyond description, the beach also goes by other names, Purità, Cala Puritate, Seno della Purità all taking their cue from the beaches closest neighbor the church dedicated to Saint Maria of Purity and ensuring that the town keeps the beach living up to its name, it is immaculately kept.
Gallipoli is divided into two parts the old town and the new town, the old town where this shot was taken is located on an island that is connected to the new town by a 16th century bridge, the city was once a busy port in the 18th century and was a hub for exported olive oil shipped all over Europe for commercial use as lamp oil, Gallipoli now is a sleepy fishing town of around 35,000 inhabitants that derives most of its income from tourism.

Lustige Begegnung auf "hoher See".

For the most part, Conrail’s GP15-1’s were relegated to local and yard service, and they rarely appeared on road freights. Here a pair of them bracket a GP38-2 on train ALCA (Allentown – Camden) at Monocacy, Pennsylvania.
They say “Feet of clay” is an expression now commonly used to refer to a weakness or character flaw but in Aliano this is not an expression of the people that live here but of the land they live on. The feeling of an alien landscape is a common one for visitors here, the rolling landscape is made of clay which has shaped by the wind and water to make a set of badlands to be envied by most desserts.
THE Calanchi di Aliano are a cathedral of solitude, white walls, silence and emptiness are on offer as you walk , hike, bike or horseback ride through this lunar landscape. One of the best trails to discover this wonderfully weird world is the “Santarcangiolese”, the peasant witch you can imagine the moonlight casting the landscape into a magical land full of fantastic legends about brigands, fairies, werewolves and witches wandering through this terrain.
Aliano sits a high rise of sand surrounded by hills of clay making the resulting views from the village a wonder of pyramids, white clay gorges all interspersed with the verdant greens olive and citrus groves. All of this highly erodible land makes for poor foundations which a fairly recent earthquake in the 1980’s has proven in the town and they are still rebuilding a lot of the older buildings back to what they once were.
