PHAENO STUDY #1
Frohes neues Jahr!
So far,
Martin

PHAENO STUDY #1
Happy new year!
After there were not that much photographic news in the last weeks in 2014 by myself, I found the time to shoot the Phaeno building in Wolfsburg (Germany) by the architect Zaha Hadid. Since I'm a great fan of her, the Phaeno has been on my list for a long time. The good news is: The building offers so many interesting perspectives such that there will be a whole series of photos of that building in the next days/weeks.
The first part of the series is somehow quite similar with respect to composition than other fine art architecture shots by me. I simply love these dramatic lines and angles in the 1:1 format. And especially with a building of Zaha Hadid, I cannot ignore this perspective since these lines and angles are a characteristic part of her architectural work from her beginnings on.
So far,
Martin
PS: The exact data of the capture can be found on www.schmaidt.de in my blog.

Back Story ........................................
Ya want to know what they're saying ?
Young Helper:
" Is Uncle Jon really a young monkey boy
with no brain for thinking?"
No#1:
Yes, and if he gets any closer throw a tomato
at him and he'll run away like a young monkey !"
"So what did young monkey boy with no brain for
thinking do ?" ..... He Shot Em .......;-)~~~
Left early as usual, did a short stop at The Dog Palace.
Fed and brushed Mama, did a quick recon around to
make sure all is OK at Mamas place.Didn't interact with
any of the other dogs. Took off to see No# 1 Wife .
Spent a few hours with No# 1, mostly watching everyone work.
Arrived home just before dark where 3 hungry dogs were waiting.
Tomorrows plan is to leave early again and head straight for
The Dog Palace. Mama and all the other dogs at the monkey temple need to spend extra time with me, or visa versa ? ..;-)
Thursday I'll be back out to see No#1, again, feeding Mama on the way. I'll be leaving 4 Laos in a few days so there's lots to do yet.
Thank You.

In a series of portraits of strangers I meet walking around making a short portrait session on the spot with what's available. Here Yuliia is shot with a 7'' Petzval mounted on a Graflex Speed Graphic loaded with Ilford HP5+ 4x5 sheet film shot at iso800 and then the negative is toned in selenium to pop with some extra contrast. Home developed in Kodak Xtol 1+1. The negative is digitized with my DSLR and have curves adjustments for tones and dust removal.

New photo series entitled "glitch" inspired by the recent trend in interfering with the text make up of an image to create imperfections or glitches. What I do is edit the text of the image using the quote in which inspired the image. So to glitch this photo I used the quote above and copy/pasted the text already within the image.
NYC, February 2009. I replaced this file with a slightly revised version in 2023.
The statue in the foreground of this shot is called "America" and is by Daniel Chester French and Adolph A. Weinman. It sits in front of the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House building at 1 Bowling Green in New York City. The glass building in the background is the MTA headquarters.
This is not entirely an original composition. In fact, I intentionally set out to capture a color version of this famous statue.

In a series of portraits of strangers I meet walking around making a short portrait session on the spot with what's available. The Fokker Dr.1 (Dreidecker, ”triplane” in German), often known simply as the Fokker Triplane, was a World War 1 fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. The Dr.1 saw widespread service in the spring of 1918. It became famous as the aircraft in which Manfred von Richthofen gained his last 19 victories, and in which he was killed on 21April 1918.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Fokker Dr.1 is a must in any collection of WW1 aircraft models, so it has been on my to-doo list for a long time. I did hesitate building one because there are so many brilliant models out there, and I did look at all the models out there, but this is completely my own design. It follows the same design characteristics as with my other WW1 models, such as engine cowling, wings and landing-gear. There is one key design feature of the Fokker Dr.1 I didn`t manage to recreate, the engine cowling ”face” with the two ”eyes” are missing. I couldn`t find a way to do it, so until I find a way it will be without ”eyes”.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.
