Mayrhofen 24-7-1990
In Austria, an extensive straw campaign takes place every summer. After the grain harvest in the eastern part of the country, the byproduct—straw—is transported to livestock farmers in the center and west. Until the early 1990s, this was done by rail. Livestock farmers in the Zillertal also received large quantities of straw, which were transported in classic covered freight wagons and carried over the final stretch to their destination on rollwagens (transporter wagons) along the narrow-gauge Zillertalbahn.
During the campaign, there were two dedicated straw trains, each running the entire line and reaching the terminus at Mayrhofen around 8:30 and 15:00. By 1990, the regular freight trains, which mainly carried timber, only operated as far as Fügen, so freight traffic on the southern part of the line could only be observed in July and August.
In Summer 1990, I was on a three-week holiday in Mayrhofen and was fortunate enough to see the straw trains almost daily. They were usually hauled by O&K diesel locomotives D8 or D9, and occasionally by D10.
I took this photo of D8 on the morning of 24 July 1990, at around 8:30. On the return journey it colleced thecalready emptied wagons and transported them to Jenbach.

The Dodge Dynasty is a front-wheel drive mid-size sedan that was introduced in 1987, as a 1988 model, as a replacement for the Dodge 600. Production continued until 1993.
The Dodge Dynasty is related to the Chrysler New Yorker; both car lines were built on the Chrysler C platform in Belvidere, Illinois. It is also similar to the Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue and Chrysler Imperial, which were available from 1990 to 1993 on an extended wheelbase platform of the Chrysler New Yorker.
