This is Derwent Water in the English Lake District.
Its the 2nd of 3 lmages I shot on a foggy morning in 1988 with my first SLR, the Olympus OM10 which I remember as a a sturdy and reliable piece of kit in the days before autofocus and digital. The image was shot on Ilford FP4. I have used adobe to enhance the highlights and shadows and generally bring the image up to date.
Under muffled clouds, 20K tons of California bound manifest has a quintet of road jacks (3x2xFRED) down on their hands and knees just below Cobre, Nevada on what was once Southern Pacific's portion of the Overland Route. There are still several miles before the worst of the grade will be achieved at Valley Pass, giving the crew plenty of time to name the sagebrush along the right of way ;)

I had an amazing three-week trip to Antigua, Guatemala, during Christmas and New Year’s in 1988. The political situation was a bit tense, so we didn’t explore the country extensively. But we did manage to visit the Indian Market in Chichicastenango for a day. It was a vibrant and colorful place, and I had a hilarious moment when a woman threw something at me while I was taking her picture. She had a big smile on her face, but I think I should have offered to pay her before I snapped the shot!
Conforming to the gently meandering bends in the Humboldt River the 'westbound main' of Union Pacific's Elko Subdivision (ex-SP) has just crossed under the eastbound main (ex-WP) in the background. On this day the westbound main supports tonnage drawn by the Missouri-Kansas-Texas painted heritage locomotive, UP 1988.

First time seeing one of these, its even a petrol model. A daily use example that has done 75k miles.
I photographed this in 2012 and haven't seen it since. It changed owners in 2013 and presumably has been in storage since until being MOT'd in January this year.
71,000 miles at the last MOT and according to Howmanyleft one of only 17 currently on the road.
I bet it's the oldest too.

In 1986, Maserati launched the high-performance version of the Biturbo saloon called the 430 which was produced from 1986 to 1994. It was the flagship variant of the saloon range, which debuted the largest 2.8-litre version of the twin-turbocharged 90° V6 engine.
The 430 was distinguished by 15-inch 5-lug disc alloy wheels and a more rounded grille and hood, that later found their way to the rest of the lineup with the first 1988 facelift. The 430 was considered to be a full grand tourer, with standard leather upholstery and walnut veneered steering wheel rim, dashboard trim, door inserts, gear shift knob along with the handbrake lever. 75,000 miles at it's 2024 MOT, 65,000 in 2023, and 62,000 in 2006, with only a few hundred covered in each intervening year.
Definitely a spot of the year contender for me! This insanely rare Calibre sits hiding in a back garden incredibly close to me but I never knew it was there until a tip-off. Can you blame me, it's literally in a back garden on a back-alley!
Off the road since 2006, current owner since 1992. Just 3 Calibres are still roadworthy.
