Back in June, 1987, a friend and I camped by the tracks in the Berkshires for a few days of action on Conrail's Boston Line. The weather could have been better. On the afternoon of the 9th, we heard a train climbing upgrade at MP 129, west of Chester, MA. It was obvious we were hearing normally aspirated EMD's. I proclaimed that I thought it was an E8A on an Office Car Special, while he, on the other hand, thought it was two GP38's on a local. We were both pleased when E8A No. 4021 rounded the curve with a short train. The was the only time I ever shot an OCS on Conrail with a single unit.
It's Halloween afternoon, and Michael Myers is roaming the streets of Haddonfield. However, here in Joliet, Santa Fe's 041 local begins its afternoon heading through Joliet Union Station. After this, I headed home to pass out candy.
E56 AHK. Appeared to have broken down. On a busy clearway so I couldn't get a better shot.
83,000 miles and no MOT history prior to 2024.
It has only covered 56 miles between MOTs.
Late 80s 3-series BMW seen on a local walk, taxed and MOT'd until Aug 2023, its done an amazing 200,000 miles too.

A shrine to wabi-sabi, transience & imperfection… former Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist, Johnnie Meier has been collecting road culture artifacts since 1987; in 2002 he retired & created the Museum. There is wabi-sabi beauty in the thoughtful organic arrangement of the road culture artifacts and in the fond remembrance of things that once populated our early memories.
On Highway 68, between Santa Fe & Taos, along a beautiful stretch of the Rio Grande River, the Classical Gas Museum is wonderful. Johnnie is an artistic, kind, & friendly soul. There is no admission fee instead donations for the Dixon Animal Protection Society are encouraged.

One last frame of this picture perfect scene from off the Fore River Parkway overpass.
After L070 cleared headed back east to Waterville the extra got their turn to continue their turn.
The MBTA Office Car Special (OCS) running as Amtrak train B933 slithers thru MOUNTAIN interlocking, MP PLD11.7 on modern day CSXT's Portland Sub, the former CPF196 on the old Pan Am Freight Main on what was once the rails of Maine Central subsidiary Portland Terminal Company.
Having turned their train to orient it back west, they shoved out of Yard 8 and across both mainlines and have entered the Mountain Branch headed up to the Portland Transportation Center where Amtrak's Downeasters presently stop. This long telephoto view pulls in and highlights the vintage searchlight signals guarding the interlocking which are slated for replacement soon.
The train is lead by GP40MCs 1129 and 1136, the former in its one a kind 'cranberry' heritage scheme and the latter one of three in MassDOT blue. Trailing are four cars: brining up the rear is brand new theater car number 535 (former 1515) named 'Mayflower', and ahead of it are office cars number 529 'Constitution' and number 525 'Minuteman' and on the head pin is 534 (former 1503), one of two specially wrapped revenue geometry cars (only along to meet timetable minimum axle requirements). All four cars are rebuilt 500-series MBBs, among the few survivors of a fleet of 67 cars (33 blind and 34 cab control) built new in Germany in 1987-88. Leading the train are heritage units 1129 and 1030, the former a GP40MC dressed in the 'cranberry' scheme and the latter an F40PH-3C dressed in Boston and Maine Minuteman livery.
The train made the rare off line trip from Boston North Station to here and back with officials from the MBTA, Keolis, Amtrak, CSXT and NNEPRA on board to look at and discuss present and future capital projects to upgrade and increase capacity for a future increase in Downeaster service.

In 1987, when the world was still (or already) divided into East and West, the Brandenburg Gate stood on the eastern side of the city, right next to the Berlin Wall. As a West German, you naturally took an adventurous day trip (well-protected as part of a school group with a responsible, very strict teacher) to the eastern part of the city. Our tour also took us to this spot. There was a small fence there back then; one more step and you probably would have been arrested...

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest fully preserved fortified cities in the world. It is situated in the city of Jaisalmer, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is a World Heritage Site. It was built in 1156 AD by the Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, from whom it derives its name. The fort stands amidst the sandy expanse of the great Thar Desert, on Trikuta Hill. Before the days of the British Raj, the fortress city served as a refuge and way-station for caravans and travelers along the Silk Road. Its ramparts served as the backdrop for many battles in past centuries when the Silk Road still served as one of the main trade routes between East and West.
The fort's massive yellow sandstone walls are a tawny lion colour during the day, fading to honey-gold as the sun sets, thereby camouflaging the fort in the yellow desert. For this reason, it is also known as the Sonar Quila or Golden Fort.[The fort is located along the southern edge of the city that bears its name, and is perhaps one of the more striking monuments in the area, its dominant hilltop location making the sprawling towers of its fortifications visible for many miles around.
