This car has been sitting in this storage lot for years. Needs a new cover I think.

This car was bought new by Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev (1906-1982).

This is me in the good old days. I included this shot for my profile to illustrate that I was once young and fit. Incidentally, I'm the one standing up with all the hair! The picture was taken on a Royal Navy inshore minesweeper (courtesy of the Admiralty) during a scientific expedition and search for sunken treasure off the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, England in 1966.

I’m leaning over slightly because my ‘payload‘ was rather heavy. My little friend was a giant spiny crayfish and they don't come any bigger. You need heavy duty gloves to handle one of these or else with a quick flip of its tail it's whisked away along with the skin of your hands. You have to approach it from above and press down hard with both hands until your companion arrives with a large sack. Then, as fast as you can, it’s ‘up and in’ tail first!

As for the dustbin, it was dustbin day, of course! But, in the state we were in at the time, no one had noticed the prop* not even the press photographer who took the photo!

Best viewed in lightbox and on full screen!

* Reference to the parody of "1066 and all that". The only difference between the two events, apart from 900 years of course, was that my French wife-to-be came over alone to conquer me and drag me back to France. But we fell in love and it's been one long battle ever since.

The wedding took place two weeks after this photo was taken (see below); on the very day that England won the world cup!

Take care, my friends, and many thanks for calling,

Colin ...

*(stage) prop = accessoire (de théâtre)

Carrozzeria Vignale was an Italian coach builder who company rebooted numerous Maseratis, Alfa Romeos, Lancia and Ferraris. The Gamine was his open two-seater design study based on the classic Fiat 500 platform. Vignale used Fiat’s sportiest 500 engine, the 21 bhp two-cylinder air-cooled unit from the 500p Sport. That was enough to take the Gamine all the way to a claimed 60 mph.

This 1966 Vignale Gamine, CYY 229G, is called ‘Gabby’ and seen at Sywell Classic on 25th September 2022.

not in a perfect condition, pretty cool !

Beach Hop, Whangamata, New Zealand,

A 1966 Bristol FLF (KPW 473D) that surprised me by turning into the local park. These buses were formerly used in the local area by Crosville. However, this one was in service with Eastern Counties before being taken over by the Church Army as a mobile coffee shop and drop-in centre. Hence its appearance in the park. It has subsequently been exported to Australia where it is undergoing restoration. Presumably they'll remove the kitchen from the upper deck!

Was Selling for $89,500 at the time.

Well here is my classic car find of the day. A 1966 Pontiac GTO a beautiful classic American muscle car. It came with a 389 cubic inch (6.4 liter) 336 HP V8 engine. The factory version was rated to go 0 to 60 MPH in 7.9 seconds but many owners of these cars added modifications that added another 100-200 horsepower, adding racing shifters, custom carburetors and manifolds, racing clutch plates and changing the transmission and or deferential gear ratios to boost acceleration and maximum speed. I talked to the owner a senior fellow about my age who said he got this car up to over 140 MPH when he first got this car about thirty five years ago.
