The 88 enjoyed great success, inspiring a popular 1950s slogan, "Make a Date with a Rocket 88", and also a song, "Rocket 88", often considered the first rock and roll record. Starting with the trunk-lid emblem of the 1950 model, Oldsmobile would adopt the rocket as its logo, and the 88 name would remain in the Olds lineup until the late 1990s, almost until the end of Oldsmobile itself.

Donald Healey’s post-war sports cars demonstrated the creative genius of their designer. Its distinctive trailing arm independent front suspension, inspired by the Tipo 158 Alfa, allowed considerable wheel movement without variation in camber or castor angles.
With motor sport reviving in popularity in post-war Britain, demand for Healey’s new 2.4 litre, Riley powered sports car was high.
Just 105 Silverstones were produced, divided almost equally between the 51 D-Type and 54 E-Type models, but achieved fame far in excess of this modest output.
This 1950 Healey Silverstone, LLE 947, is part of the Haynes Motor Museum collection in Somerset.
Our family car when we were kids, now a classic, but back then a bit of a dud, not like the cool Cadillac Eldorado or Hudson Hornet. . . ! Anyone else remember first cars?
The abandoned 1950 Cadillac actually had some nice options for the time-the AM radio, for instance, was a pretty expensive add-on.Somehow though,I doubt the "green space" was as popular....
Circa 1950-4. Not sure if it moved to our new home in '54 when we moved in or if we had it before. The light under the shelf works, but not the clock/timer. The width of the stove is 36 inches.
This great stove was sold with the house in 2015. I miss ir!
Meteor was a marque of automobiles offered by Ford Canada from 1949 to 1976. The make was retired for the 1962 and 1963 model years, when the name was used for the Mercury Meteor sold in the States.
