A West. bound Union Pacific Manifest led by one of its Heritage Unit, the 'Spirit of the Union Pacific' crossing a creek at Luling, TX.
After I finally got my Ushankas I could complete my Soviet troops for now. I hope y’all like it and thanks for taking a look!
Story time: On our way to the LS&I in Marquette, MI, we spent the night in Saint Paul. The next morning was spent catching various trains around the Twin Cities. We were driving along the river and we noticed the UP bridge was down and signal was lit. We barely missed the head-end of the MSSAL on the bridge and decided to make our way to the walking path in the event of a nose-out DPU. There was another photographer already there and he asked how we were planning on shooting this train. We replied that we were hoping for a nose-out DPU and he said, “there is. It’s the 1943 as a manned helper.” Needless to say we were completely shocked when, sure enough, 1943 came around the curve, headlights on, shoving the train.
As we rounded the corner we stopped, and sent some scouts up ahead. We turned off the tanks and waited... Suddenly an door on a nearby wear house swung open and a squad of discombobulated Germans ran out. Almost just as soon as they had came out they realized they had walked right into our line of fire. A few almost instantly threw their guns down and hands up. A few more still left in the building slammed the door and disappeared. One unfortunate German tried to run, we took care of him quickly. My commander suddenly called out on the radio "We finally have some prisoners sir!"
Another scene, this one I hope to expand upon and possibly bring to a convention this year, comments and criticism much appreciated.

Sandy City Balloon Festival: Still not able to walk much especially after being locked down during covid. So, I parked myself on a blanket on a hill and just used my old 28-300 Nikon lens. This area is kind of a bowl and is used for soccer and baseball clubs and is also a rainwater runoff catch basin. I took about 200 images, so I will have images to post for quite a while. Started at about 6:30 am.
1694-dark starts at this image and uses the left arrow and they will be in the order of time taken.
UP 1943, "The Spirit", leads UP Engineering special PKBLW (Kirby-Longview, TX) north on the West Belt Sub out of downtown Houston. Partly cloudy skies helped to prevent the train from being entirely backlit.

SOCIALS:
(I am aware of the repeating heads I only realised after I'd taken it and didn't want to go to the trouble to setting everything up to redo it)
The first figure (Same as in 1940) is an RAF airman, representing not only the bomber campaign over Germany but one of the most famous raids of the Second World War. The Dambusters raid in May 1943 attacked German dams in the Ruhr, a heavily industry area using a specially designed bomb. The flooding caused put factories out of action and stopped any water fueled power stations from generating electricity. The second figure represents the German army's retreat through Russia as the Russian army with new tactics and more men gain the upper hand. In July of 1943 Commonwealth and American forces landed at Sicily to begin the Italian campaign following after the African campaign. And finally is a French Resistance fighter, which represents the increased attacks on German communications, vehicles and men as the invasion of Europe drew closer.
Thanks for taking a look, would love to hear your comments as always. :)
This is my new Sicily 1943 MOC. A lot of work went into this.
Comments and feedback are always appreciated ;-)

UP 1943 leads its train into Proviso Yard, with a UP 6576 and KCS 4785 trailing. The light power sitting under the signal bridge was only seconds away from blocking this view of the 1943 as it was flying towards proviso.
After a head scratchingly slow trip through Council Bluffs and Omaha, 1943 heads for points south with an engineering special just after glorious morning sunshine was obscured by high clouds moving in from the south. Things that make you pull your hair out!
Originally I wanted to shoot Buttermilk Curve but a long manifest paired with a coal unit spoiled that. The next best shot was this wedge just up the road.
UP 1943 'The Spirit of the Union Pacific' leads the M-DMHN at Lenape on the UP Kansas Sub. Looks like the lead motor has been bucking a few drifts here and there. The snow than came down on the 22nd is now all but a memory for most of the ROW around these parts. The brief warmup that we had overnight that brought some freezing rain is a distant memory as the cold north wind is howling again today as temperatures continue to fall back into the teens.
Looks like we might get a reprieve on Thursday...which will just make things a sloppy mess.
Happy Kwanzaa folks.
