The pilot is looking right into the camera!
Continuing my series of very old aircraft, this is the oldest British built aeroplane that can still be flown. Dating from 1912, it was built to the order of one Cyril Foggin, about whom little seems to be known, other than that he became a Royal Flying Corps pilot in WW1, rose to the rank of Major and was sadly killed in 1918 at the age of 26 in a car accident close to the Western front in France. Before the war, Foggin had sold the Blackburn plane to farmer Montague Glew. The latter flew, and eventually crashed the plane in 1914. Its remains were kept in a barn (under a haystack!) until discovered and purchased by Richard Shuttleworth in 1938. The aircraft was restored in 1948 and has been flying ever since, owned and operated by The Shuttleworth Collection.
On a happier note, Monty married Cyril's younger sister in 1922. Monty was lucky to have survived his brief flying career - he was too short-sighted for military service in WW1.
Es un placer asistir a las concentraciones de coches clásicos convocadas por el Club Horta Clàssics. En este caso se trata de la XIV Concentración de Coches Clásicos en Torrent, donde hemos podido ver y admirar algunos vehículos clásicos. A nice day of sailing 107 years ago. Bertil Anderson´s photo shows Carl-Georg Steinwall (right) and friend sailing in the Stockholm archipelago. The boat, Iverna (5,67 m LOA), was owned by Carl-Georg´s father Georg. Iverna was designed in the 1890s by August Plym and built at Plym´s Stockholms Båtbyggeri (later Neglingenvarvet). Stockholms Båtbyggeri batch produced a number of boats based on the same design. My restoration and colorization of the original image in the Swedish National Maritime Museum archive (Digital Museum).

A five-storey masonry tenement and trading house built in the neoclassical style. On August 27, 1913, the architect Bernhard Bielenstein developed the project of the building by order of Mārtiņš Treimanis. The building was completed in August 1914. This is evidenced by the initials of Mārtiņš Treimanis “M. T. ” and the year "1914" on the pediment of the building. A two-storey masonry house built in 1878 according to the project of architect Robert Pflug, the first masonry building on Krāsotāju Street, became a part of this building.

Photos from the interpretive sign at the Othello Tunnels showing the early phase of their construction in 1914. The November 2021 flooding of the Coquihalla River (due to the atmospheric rivers that swept over B.C.) has left a lot of damage to this historic site.
This is a beautiful 1914 Voightlander. The newspaper is also the real thing showing the front page from December 1914 Vancouver World News. At 105 years old both the camera and newspaper are very delicate. The radio in the background is also from the same era. Captured with Fuji XT20.
British QF 13 Pounder at the First Battle of Ypres, 1914. British Expeditionary Force Artillerists prepare to loose a barrage on entrenched German forces. In the wake of the previous Race to the Sea that saw the failure of the Schlieffen plan and mass casualties on both sides, morale and ammo was universally low, causing both sides to seek shelter and avoid direct combat in favor of fortifying defenses. The battle lines drawn this early in the war remained virtually the same until 1918, due to the static nature of trench warfare on the Western front.
The pair of 4-cylinder, 360 cubic-inch Duesenberg racing cars entered in the 1914 Indianapolis 500 by the German-born engineering brothers, Fred and Augie Duesenberg were basically the same cars they had developed in 1913 for the Mason Motor Company of Des Moines, Iowa. At the end of that year, the brothers had relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota where they formed the Duesenberg Motor Company and after relocating again to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1920/21, it was to produce some of America’s most cherished classic passenger automobiles of the 1920s and 1930s.
The emerging “star” driver of the 1914 Duesenberg team was 23-year old Eddie Rickenbacker, who finished 10th at Indianapolis and went on to win a 300-mile dirt track race at Sioux City, Iowa on July 4th.
Trivia
The 1914 Indianapolis 500 race was dominated by the French racers. Finishing first was Frenchman, René Thomas driving Delage. Following in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th were Arthur Duray (Peugeot), Albert Guyot (Delage), Jules Goux (Peugeot) and coming in fifth, Barney Oldfield driving a Stutz powered by a "Wisconsin” engine.

1914 Talbot 4CBX Roadster (1903 - 1938)
Clément-Talbot was founded in 1903. The first products were cars that were London-assembled mechanical components of French Clément-Bayard cars but the French components were soon replaced by British parts. The brand-name was reduced to Talbot after the first year. - Wikipedia

An attempt to frame the old lifeboat station at The Lizard in a slightly different way, I was going for a graphic style by looking down at the station straight on and keeping the angled walls pointing towards the bottom corners of the frame. It doesn’t really look like it, but this was another tricky shot as I was being buffeted by extremely strong winds again making it difficult to keep the composition straight!
