1704 photos on Flickr

During our winter months in southern and central Ontario we occasionally see small and sometimes large flocks of Snow Buntings scouring our open croplands, fields and pastures looking for seeds and grains on bare or snow covered ground. By times these flocks will be a mix of Horned Larks, Snow Buntings and infrequently Lapland Longspurs. They operate as one fleeting unit flushing, flying and landing together. Roadsides are commonplace for them as well where they pick up grains of sand and gravel to help with the digestion of the numerous hard seeds they consume.

While trying to photograph Wild Turkeys in this feedlot a small flock of about 20 Snow Buntings landed and scratched around for seed left from the hay that was spread around.

DB Stoomlocomotief 41 360 kom op 24 maart 1990 met een trein het station van Luik Guillemins binnen gereden. De rit begon in Düsseldorf en is via Mönchengladbach, Aachen West, Montzen en Visé in Luik te recht gekomen. Na luik zou de trein via Trois-Ponts, Büllingen, Jünkerath en Köln terug keren naar Düsseldorf.

DB Steam locomotive 41 360 entered Liège Guillemins station with a train on March 24, 1990. The ride started in Düsseldorf and ended up in Liège via Mönchengladbach, Aachen West, Montzen and Visé. After Liège, the train would return to Düsseldorf via Trois-Ponts, Büllingen, Jünkerath and Köln.

Easter Sunday was cold and dreary here: sunshine of the previous days gone, warmth gone, replaced with ice pellets and snow flurries and a biting wind. Late in the afternoon I went for a walk with a friend and her dog, and we startled these Red-winged Blackbirds from a field. Twenty-five males! I wonder where their mates are... building nests?

Vandaag reden deze 2 NMBS-locs in het kader van het proefbedrijf in Nederland een slagje van Kijfhoek naar Centraal Uitwisselings Punt bij Valburg. De enige dag waarop dit type 17 op de Betuweroute te aanschouwen is. De locs gaan o.a. de Traxx'en in de Beneluxdienst vervangen. Een groep van 7 fotografen stond de trein bij de Molenweg nabij Hardinxveld-Giessendam op te wachten.

The Merlin is one of five falcons that can be seen in our region; the others are the Kestrel (common), Prairie Falcon (somewhat common), Peregrine (I've never seen one here), and Gyrfalcon (one turned up four winters ago). Most of "our" Merlins are the standard dark brown, but a few are pale, like the one pictured here. Very beautiful. Just a lucky encounter while driving a back road, and it didn't fly away until I had shot a dozen frames.
