The young grizzly was happily feeding on tender spring greens, while I stayed in my vehicle and shot away. It was early morning, wet snow had fallen overnight, and presumably my fellow campers were all snug in their sleeping bags. It was just the bear and me.
At one point it passed by my car so closely I could have reached out and stroked its back. But some years earlier I impulsively stroked a rattlesnake's back as it slithered under a boulder, and the snake didn't appreciate that. So... I have learned to keep my hands to myself.

I have photos of muskrats out of the water, but many more of them doing this - a close swim-by, perhaps a rodent reconnaissance. I like the light, though: setting sun glinting off the water surface and rimming the little animal's fur.
I have revisited this Alberta lake many times since 2015, when I made this shot. Drought has taken a toll; there is very little remaining accessible shoreline. A couple of good winter snowfall accumulations would fix that, but the forecast for the coming winter does not look promising.
Re. the format, panoramas do not always have to be landscape shots. Here, it allowed me to tighten the crop without clipping any of my subject.

I haven't set eyes on a Sora since the summer of 2015. Loss of habitat due to drought conditions has been the main factor, reducing the chances of photographing some of my favourite birds in this area to almost nil. No more Sora, Horned Grebe, Pied-billed Grebe, American Bittern - the list goes on and on - in places I used to see them regularly. This spring-fed pond, for example, is currently bone-dry and overgrown. Until we get a better winter snow pack, followed by a spring and summer with some rain, this will continue. (We had enough rain this year but there wasn't enough snow to top up the wetlands early in the season with meltwater.)
So this image harkens back to better times, when the secretive Sora would breed in our area and occasionally even come out into the open. Like this. Allowing me to shoot from the rolling Toyota blind - a silver one, as I shot this photo about a month before springing for a newer model, in red.

Op 21 april 2017 trok de Locon 1506 een fraaie werktrein van Amersfoort naar Amsterdam. De G1206 is met een stopmachine en ballasprofileermachine + tien beladen Railpro Fccpps’n te zien in de Eempolder.
22 Oktober 2016 - Locon plaatste op 22 oktober 2016 één ketelwagen bij de Shell spoorpoort 7 in Pernis met de fraai oranje bestickerde G1206 1506.

Op 11 december 2015 werd te Arnhem Goederen een sleep van 19 wagens van het type Laars (gelede wagens, 38 wageneenheden) met boomstammen beladen. Deze werden 's avonds door de 1506 van Locon bij elkaar gerangeerd en naar Emmerich gereden. De 1506 staat op deze foto klaar om een set van 6 wagens om te halen naar de overige 13 wagens. Helaas is met dit type wagens de belading wat slecht zichtbaar vanuit deze hoek. Arnhem, 12 december 2015
Ook vandaag werden vanwege de werkzaamheden bij Boxtel een aantal goederentreinen omgeleid via de noordelijke Maaslijn. De leukste waren de heen- en terugrit van de gastrein Sloe - Geleen Lutterade DSM. Op de Maaslijn mocht Captrains G1206 met nummer 1506 de treinen rijden.
Als eerste zag ik de trein 51056 van Lutterade DSM naar Sloe passeren in de bossen bij mijn woonplaats Malden. Aan de haak heeft ze een lange sleep met (lege) gasketelwagons.
Deze trein zou ongeveer gelijktijdig met haar tegentrein 51055 aankomen in Nijmegen. De 1506 en Traxx 186 152 konden daar hun treinen uitwisselen.
Op de voorgrond links ligt onder de struiken het oude spoor van de in 1991 opgedoekte spoorlijn Nijmegen - Kleve (D).
Jammer genoeg was de zon vandaag niet van de partij maar dat maakte dan wel weer zo'n foto mogelijk die anders vol zon tegen zou zijn geweest.

It is the last days of commercial service for Denmark's custom-built Litra ME as part of DSB. The entire fleet has been acquired by Nordic Re-Finance and will remain in Scandinavia. Seeing them in push-pull mode at speeds up to 160 km/h will likely remain a thing of the past. ME 1506 was spotted with a Dosto rake as Re 2547 to Holbæk a bit after Hvalsø in the rainy 17.11.2021 - mere weeks before the decommissioning takes place.

In Nijmegen wisselde de 1506 en de 186 152 hun treinen uit.
Nadat ik eerder al de 1506 met de lege gastrein zag passeren in de bossen bij Malden, keerde ze relatief vlot terug met de met LPG beladen gastrein 51055 van Sloe naar Lutterade DSM. We zie de trein hier het station Mook-Molenhoek naderen.

Op 11 december 2015 werd te Arnhem Goederen een sleep van 19 wagens van het type Laars (gelede wagens, 38 wageneenheden) met boomstammen beladen. Deze werden 's avonds door de 1506 van Locon bij elkaar gerangeerd en naar Emmerich gereden. Om de belading goed weer te kunnen geven werd een plaatje van opzij gemaakt, aangezien vanuit de "normale hoek" met dit type wagens de belading vrij slecht zichtbaar is. De 1506 staat op deze foto klaar om een set van 6 wagens om te halen naar de overige 13 wagens. Arnhem, 12 december 2015
In de avond van 3 Maart 2016 staat de Locon 1506 in Apeldoorn met afvalwagens afkomstig uit Noordwijkerhout, Crailoo en Apeldoorn. Nadat de G1206 weggezet is zal een 9900 de trein onder nummer 50080 verder rijden via Deventer en Zwolle naar Wijster.
Inmiddels is Locon sinds Juli 2017 failliet verklaard. Hiermee kwam er ook een einde aan de afvaltreinen in Nederland. De meeste locomotieven zijn overgegaan naar RFO. De 1506 is overgegaan naar Captrain waar deze zijn fraaie jasje helaas verloren heeft.
Locon 1506 komt met de welbekende afvaltrein naar Crailoo en Noordwijkerhout door de Eempolder nabij Soest. Tot 2017 reed Locon om de dag een huisvuiltrein vanuit Noordwijkerhout, Crailoo en Apeldoorn naar VAM in Wijster (later Attero te Coevorden). 29-4-2016.
In het weekend van 13 en 14 Augustus 2016 vonden er werkzaamheden plaats rondom Groningen. Hierbij waren onderandere DBC, Volker Rail en Locon aanwezig. Laatst genoemde is op 14 Augustus onderweg met de 1506 met nog een deels beladen trein als trein 52007 vanuit Onnen naar Crailoo als deze Amersfoort passeert.
De Diesel lok 1506 van Locon komt met een ketel trein door Giessen - Oudekerk heen gereden ,richting Emmerich en verder
IHB SW1500 #1506 is pictured at Riverdale IL on February 15th 1996. This unit is unusual in that it was one of two CSX end cab switchers that initially received the bright future scheme applied "correctly" but "incorrectly". Yes, the bottom of the "hockey stick" was supposed to be on the F end of the engine, it was designed for it to be worn on the cab end. This wasn't repeated after the first two units painted like this. I believe these were units leased to the L&N, hence the HLCX marks after being returned from CSX. I think IHB turned it into some experimental H-bomb engine or something.
