Introduction to the history of the trains in the streets at Weymouth Harbour
A couple of years ago I posted (in colour) the picture that was next to this on the negative. I had taken them at the opening of my bernlaw's exhibition in a local art gallery.
A few days ago, Gerry Squires, the man on the right, the younger of these two men, died. My bernlaw and Gerry had been friends and colleagues for four decades. Gerry had been until recently a very youthful and active man, but at 77 he got sick and fairly quickly died of cancer. He was 75 in this picture.
The last time I spoke to him was in the hospital one day this past summer when I was waiting for a simple blood test and he happened by -- still looking healthy -- on his way to see his specialist.
There's been an outpouring of public grief over the loss of one of the province's leading, if not its leading, visual artist.
By the way, Phil, standing next to Gerry, is in his nineties.
This was Kodak Colorplus 200 film in the Olympus Pen D3, a half-frame camera. I didn't like the colour so I converted it into a single-channel b&w picture. B&w conversions are never as good a "real" b&w film but I like the swirly daubby effect in Phil's beard.
