Byles of Kidlington Bedford YNT Duple Dominant IV MYB 395 in Brighton in August, 1992. It had been new to Marchwood Motorways as NJT 122W. I was more familar with UAY 222S, an earlier Byles Bedford Dominant but alas I don't have a photo.

Another day - another Dominant III. Parked outside Chorlton Street is this Volvo B10M with Spratts, which had arrived from Norwich on an NX duplicate. It was almost back on home soil, having been new to Berkeley Holidays of Holmes Chapel, a short-lived operation which I believe was run by David Abbott, son of the more widely-known Godfrey Abbott of Sale. The firm didn't last a year in its original form, with Spratts picking up this vehicle when only 8 months old. He then went on to buy an early Bova Europa in 1982, and fared no better, with that passing to Hutchison's of Overtown by the end of the year when the business folded.

West Midlands Travel's, MKI Metrobus 2122 (GOG 122W) was fire damaged at Walsall Garage, allegedly by a former employee with a grudge against the Company. As a result of this the vehicle was subsequently parked up out of service in the garage, but was quickly cannibalised by engineering staff for parts to keep others in service. This continually occurred, until the bus was virtually reduced to a frame. However, in an incredible turn around, WMT finally went to the trouble of rebuilding 2122, eventually placing it back in back into service. The picture shows 2122 when stripped of parts in Walsall Garage on 16th March 1994. The scorching from the fire to the vehicle's interior roof panels in the upper saloon can be seen in this view.

2122 was withdrawn April 1989 following fire damage. It was used at Mossley Road for trainee apreintaships. Remarkably it was rebuilt for service for being re-instated at Perry Barr in Late 1995. Here fresely repainted and Marshalls refurb working route 107.

A view toward the Santa Barbara Wharf from the hills above, featuring a pretty and unusual broadcast tower: one triplexed with KZBN/1290, KCLU/1340 and KOSJ/1490am, all shunt-fed to a single feed point. (The tower is grounded at the bottom)

At this writing, two of the stations are planning a facility change: shorter tower, "top loaded" with a second section.

The current tower is 200 feet tall, and is not top loaded. It is 106.3° on 1490am, 94.4° on 1290am, and 98.2° on 1340am.

Currently (16 April 2020) there are no applications or construction permits for the 1490am station, but there is an application (dated 23 March 2020) for the 1290am station, and a construction permit (granted 18 December 2019) for the 1340am station. Both of those are for a shorter sectionalized tower at the same location: 34-25-07.6 N 119-41-09.7 W (NAD 27); or 34-25-07.6 N 119-41-13.2 W (Converted to NAD 83).

The 1290am application says the tower will be: 66 Electrical Degree (42.61 meters), 60.4 Degrees (38.99 meters), with 5.6 Degrees (3.62 meters) of top loading. Current power is 500w day and 120.2w night. The application is for 500w day and 114w night. RMS theoretical efficiency of the whole tower at 1290am currently is 292.9 mV/meter (per kW), which is 207.11 mV/meter at 500w in the daytime, and 102.31 mV/meter at 122w at night. With the new sectionalized arrangement, the RMS theoretical efficiency is 290.175 mV/meter (per kW), which is 205.18 mV/meter at 500w in the daytime and 97.97 mV/meter at 114w at night.

The 1340 construction permit says the tower will be: 68.7 Electrical Degree (42.7 meters), 62.8 Degrees (39.03 meters), with 5.9 Degrees (3.67 meters) of top loading. Current power is 650w day and night, and an RMS Theoretical efficiency of 297.73 mV/meter (per kW), or 240.04 mV/meter at 650w. The construction permit is for 740w day and 700w night. The new RMS Theoretical efficiency is 278.9 mV/meter (per kW), or 239.92 mV/meter at the daytime power of 740 watts and 233.34 mV/meter at the nighttime power of 700 watts.

In briefer words, the stations on 1290 and 1340 will be negligibly weaker, and 1340 a bit more so at night.

I think this means that 1490 will still use the whole tower while 1290 and 1340 use separate radiators skirting up the side of the tower. And I welcome corrections on all of this data.
