On Saturday, the Pere Marquette #1225 traveled from Mount Pleasant to Cadillac (Michigan). I shot it at various points along the way, racing ahead, then getting into position for a few shots as it passed.
This engine was born in 1941and in 2013 was reborn. My father was a master machinist on the Ann Arbor Railroad. He helped kept it run during the second world war. During Christmas time it's know as the Polar express. It take children to the north pole. ;^)

The thing that puts me into the holiday spirit isn't Christmas music, or snow, or even buying gifts. No, it's going to see Pere Marquette 1225 every December as it pulls the Polar Express! Here's the 1941-built Berkshire doing just that as it thumps out of Owosso passing the former Robbins Furniture Warehouse.

In October of 1990, recently-restored Pere Marquette Berkshire #1225 pulled some freight trains on CSX's Plymouth Subdivision between Plymouth and Grand Rapids. These trips were test runs to see how the engine performed as a prelude to the locomotive's big trip to Huntington, WV the following year for the NRHS convention. They marked the first time since 1951 that a PM steam locomotive had operated on PM rails, and by all accounts were a success. The west-bound trip is seen here at the east end of Trowbridge in East Lansing, where #1225 was displayed for nearly 25 years at Michigan State University.

Pere Marquette 1225 is a 2-8-4 (Berkshire) steam locomotive built for Pere Marquette Railway (PM) by Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. 1225 is one of two surviving Pere Marquette 2-8-4 locomotives, the other being 1223 which is on display at the Tri-Cities Historical Society near ex-GTW coaling tower, in Grand Haven, MI.

Obecnie do Chełma przyjeżdżają 3 pary pociągów pośpiesznych po szerokim torze.
Warto wspomnieć kilka słów o lokomotywie, jest to zmodernizowany w 2009 roku człon B lokomotywy M62-1225. W lutym 2023 roku lokomoywa wykoleiła się z pociagiem Kijów - Warszawa, podczas naprawy awaryjnej maszyna otrzymała już nowe barwy kolei ukraińskich. Obecnie Gagarin na stałe obsługuje pociągi pośpieszne do Chełma wraz z M62-1225-1 i lokomotywami TE33AC.
