A FAMILIAR and colorful little bird, always on the move, and entertaining to watch. The JUVENILE is similar to the adult but the colors are subdued, particularly the blue elements of the plumage. An easy bird to observe.

MY LAST IMAGE, sorry to say, am leaving the cold wet winter days to you hardened photographers, and sadly going to the Gambia for two weeks, heat, mangroves, and so many birds you have the difficult decision of which birds to point your camera at first, am sure you feel sorry for me. But will return in two weeks to show you how I got on.

Keep safe and well GOD bless you......................Tomx
SORRY BUT A FEEDER CAPTURE, we rarely see them at all, and I love these charming and well-marked little finches, this male I expect will be heading north to breed, so will count my blessings at seeing one at all.

SUMMER VISITOR, this bird was busy feeding up close to the coast , to make the hop across the Channel and work its way south to warmer climates. I know that I am still fairly new to birding, but it seems like a lot of birds think its Autumn already, and indeed the weather has been a bit autumnal, at times. have you seen any signs ?
Bit of a heavy crop on this, but not a lot to show you.

FORAGING in low scrub, rather warbler like, picking and hovering from the underside of leaves, Was told of this uncommon bird to the Kotu area, and have to admit to spending more time looking or waiting for an appearance, than any other bird on the trip, but it did put an appearance just for a few seconds, would have loved to have got a side image, to show its full beauty.

UNITE IN PRAYER FOR UKRAINE
================================================
WELL - MARKED bird, rather warbler-like proportions, and indeed often feeds in a similarly energetic and acrobatic manner to this unrelated group of birds. ALTHOUGH it is most numerous in conifer forests, it is also over the last few years, been a frequent visitor to garden bird feeders. Captured at Bossenham Woods, near Dunkirk, Kent, UK.

THANK YOU, for being a friend, and your kind comments that mean a lot, and are very encouraging indeed. Enjoy your weekend, but Stay Safe, God Bless....................Tomx.
OVERWINTERING bird, more and more Chiffchaffs are doing this now, in the South East, found at our local sewer works at Minster, and with the sun making a brief appearance, out came hundreds of gnats for the birds to feed on, you can see one under its legs..

Am having trouble holding the weight of the camera and lens, up for any much time, as my shoulders are quite weakened from the Polymyalgia .

A TINY WARBLER that is perhaps best known for its onomatopoeic song. The Chiffchaff is a restless feeder, constantly on the move among foliage in search of invertebrates. The sexes are similar, seen at Elmley Marshes Sheppey Kent.

"HOME GROWN !" a real joy to see youngsters everywhere at our garden feeders, blue and great tits, chaffinches, green finch, sparrows, robin and less welcome Jackdaws, Many of our first nests failed as it was so cold, resulting in a lack of insects. But now we are on the second broods they have been very successful, The blue tit juvenile is seen begging for food from its mother, by flutering its wings, could watch them all day.

This origami Daffodil has almost the same folding sequence as the 'Daffodil Tower' (see first comment box). I don't know which of these two designs was the first one.
Paper:
- For each daffodil I used 6 pieces of 7,5x15cm, double colored yellow kami paper
Final size: diameter 11cm, height 4,5cm
- For the leaves several strokes green copy paper, width 3,75cm, length varies from 20- 30cm.

A bit of sad looking origami cat, as a tribute for one of my two black cats, Dubh, who disappeared about two weeks ago. No sign of him yet, so I think he will never come back. He will be missed.
Folded from three pieces of black kami-paper:
- body 15x15cm
- head 7,5x7,5cm
- eyes 7,5x7,5cm
Final height about 11cm, depends where you glue the head ;-)

“Our life is a constant journey, from birth to death. The landscape changes, the people change, our needs change, but the train keeps moving. Life is the train, not the station.”
Quote - Paulo Coelho
And back to the origami trains once more ;-))
As you can see, it is not only the Locomotive , but also the Grain Car, the Freight Car, the Coal Car and the Caboose. I put them in that order behind the locomotive.
Each part of this train set is folded from the same size paper, 15x15cm, patterned Freudenberg-paper.
Final size:
Locomotive: length 7cm, height 4,5cm.
Grain Car: length 9cm, height 2,5cm
Freight Car + Coal car: length 11cm, height 4cm

There is also a complex orgami model of this intriguing Shachihoko, but the result is great. ;-))

""A 'Shachihoko' (鯱鉾) or 'Shachi' (鯱) is an animal in Japanese folklore with the head of a tiger and the body of a carp.
It was believed that this animal could cause the rain to fall, and as such, temples and castles were often adorned with roof ornaments (shibi) crafted in the form of a shachihoko, in order to protect them from fire.
When pronounced 'shachi ', 鯱 also means orca."" - WiKi
The 'work' is done!!!!. In the collage above you see the complete model in 3 different angles. (see first comment box for a detail of the 'flower tower').
The 'origami Daffodil Tower' is built with 4 flowers and connecting pieces, which suggest the leaves.
According to the diagrams the petals should stick out more straight, but when adjusting they moved towards each other, so I connected them together. A small variation on the theme.
The diameter is 20cm, height 11cm.
It a nice spring decoration ;-))
Paper:
Each daffodil is composed of 6 elements forming the petals. I used 6 pieces of yellow kami paper, 7,5X15cm for one flower( so totally 12 pieces)
For the 'Leaves': 12 green pieces of green kami paper, also 7,5x15cm.

My camera has had to go to be repaired and could be without it for quite a long time.
"""Good news!!! Santa is on his way!!!
It is a very long journey and although the reindeer have magical supersonic powers to fly in the air, it is still better from a welfare point of view to let the animals rest once in a while. Also for the Santa himself, he is not getting any younger either. So they all are enjoying now a little break on a cloud full with snow!
Please have a closer look at the sled too.
On the back you see a lantern, which works on solar energy and ensures visibility during night flights.
So if you see one or more blue moving dot(s) in the evening or at night next week,..... then you know what it is."""

During the last renovations in and around the house, I folded many elements. They are not difficult to fold and you can put them down and pick them up again at any time.
Last week I put them together and of course took pictures. I took the photos all from the same distance and angle, so that the final size is also visible that way.
Here is an overview of the models that are possible with the element "Diamond Bridge 90".
In the first horizontal row the model that arises with 6 units. I find this one the most interesting, because it has so many different "faces".
In the second row twice the 12units and the 30units version.
They are all connected in the same way.
Paper size one unit 7,5x15cm.
Final size:
6 units: diameter 9cm
12 units: diameter 11cm
30 units: diameter 14cm

""Surprise…surprise…!!!
Some chickens are very curious and want to step right into the big world…. shouting out loud "Here I am….. !!!!""
Neal Elias (1921 -2005), who designed this model, was one of the most important and influential figures of the modern origami.
He has great designs and they are very interesting and also much fun to fold!!
This origami model is a golden oldie, it was created in 1962.
I folded this from one piece of soft, fine-textured paper, 19,5x19,5cm, previously painted one side yellow.
Final size: about 10cm width and 11cm tall
Model: Hatching Chick
Design: Neal Elias

COLOURFUL and familiar little bird, found in the country-side and most gardens, a easy bird to observe in Britain, and very adorable, they tap on our kitchen window. THIS image was taken in March, as most adult birds look tatty and worn out, feeding young, and many will go for a second brood, so not showing a current one.

"Remember I received the 'Golden Egg' ? …..
I just held it in my hands…..colors changed…….suddenly I heard soft ticks and the egg opened……...
A little happy magical baby-bird was born !! ;-))"
It is a different origami model than the Golden Egg itself. I folded from a piece of metal foil, 19x19cm, final seize about 11cm.
Model : Hatching Chick
Design: Peter Engel
Diagrams in his book '10 Fold Origami'
Perhaps you will think: What?...... even more...?! And then I have to admit: "Yes, i folded even more units .........with a small difference".
Here you see an overview of the origami Diamond Bridge models, the big sister of the "Diamond Bridge 90", which I showed yesterday (see first comment if you missed it).
The difference lies in a few other creases that gives the unit a more pointed shape. If you then join at least 3 units together a point of a star is created. Furthermore, because of this different point shape, it is possible to ensemble more units together.
In the first horizontal row the model that arises with 6 units.
The second row shows two possibilities the 12 units version. The grey ones show two 'faces' of the 3 units connection for the star point and the green one has a 4 units connection.
The third row shows two possibilities the 30 units version. The yellows show the two 'faces' of the 3 units connection for the star point and the orange one has the 5 units connection.
Paper size one unit 7,5x15cm.
Final size:
6 units: diameter 11cm
12 units: diameter 13cm
30 units: diameter 15cm
Model: origami "Diamond Bridge"

The Double-barred Finch is never far from water, the Double-barred finch prefers scrubby grassland, long grass, open forests and farmlands.
Found in the Kimberley region through to west of the Gulf of Carpentaria and then from Cape York down the east coast to south-eastern Victoria.
In their native habitat, Double-barred finches feed on seeds off the ground as well as picking them from seed-heads. Insects are also consumed, especially during the breeding season.

ONE of the easiest birds to observe in Britain on a daily basis, the juvenile above is similar to the adult but the colours are subdued, particularly the blue elements of the plumage. This is how 'Dark' looks like when all the 6 elements are put together: a modular snowflake with a lovely star in the middle.
To show that this model is really 3D, I used a mirror, so you can see the star and the side. And now it seems this snowflake is floating on her own reflection ;-)) Magic is in the air !

Double-barred Finch
Scientific Name: Taeniopygia bichenovii
Description: The Double-barred Finch is one of the long-tailed grass-finches and is notable for its 'owl-faced' features, having a white face bordered black. It is grey-brown, with white underparts banded black above and below the chest, giving the species its name. The wings are black, spotted white, the tail is black and the bill and legs are blueish-grey. Juveniles are dulller, with indistinct chest bars. These grass-finches usually feed in flocks and have a bouncing, undulating flight pattern.
Similar species: There are two subspecies of Double-barred Finch: the eastern race has a white rump and the western race has a black rump. Otherwise, distinguished form other finches by its 'owl-face'.
Distribution: The Double-barred Finch is found in the Kimberley region through to west of the Gulf of Carpentaria (the western race annulosa), and then from Cape York down the east coast to south-eastern Victoria (the eastern race, bichenovii).
Habitat: The Double-barred Finch prefers dry grassy woodlands and scrublands, open forests and farmlands. It is never far from water.
Seasonal movements: Nomadic; only an occasional visitor to extreme south-eastern part of range.
Feeding: The Double-barred Finch feeds on the ground on seeds. It will also take insects, especially when breeding. It usually feeds in groups or flocks of up to 40 birds.
Breeding: The Double-barred Finch builds a rounded nest, with a side entrance and short tunnel into a inner chamber lined with fine grass, feathers and plant down. The nest is placed between 1 m to 5 m from the ground in pandanus or thick shrubs, or even in the eaves of a building, often close to an active wasps' nest. Both parents incubate and feed the young.
The nestlings of Double-barred Finches beg with their heads down to one side. This is unique to the grass-finch and waxbill family.
