NS locomotive 1109 has just left Heerlen station, hauling the IC-coaches for the Intercity service bound for Amsterdam and its final destination, the coastal town of Zandvoort aan Zee.
On the left stand the coaches for the Benelux service between Brussels and Amsterdam. Further left is a historical site featuring the last remaining headframe building of the former 'Oranje Nassau 1' coal mine, which closed in December 1974.
Behind this preserved industrial relic looms the large office complex of Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Part of this agency was relocated here from The Hague in the 1970s to generate jobs, countering the economic decline that followed the government's 1965 decision to close all local coal mines. This policy shift was triggered by vast natural gas discoveries in the north, which rendered southern mining economically unviable.

Als gebürtiger Düsseldorfer hat es mich schon sehr früh in die Ferne gezogen. Frankfurt, München, Wien, Graz und seit 1999 wohnhaft in Jennersdorf, im wunderschönen Südburgenland.
Im ausgeübten Beruf als Werbegestalter und Grafiker (1966-1992) aber auch in der Selbständigkeit (bis 2012) ist die bildende Kunst immer allgegenwärtig gewesen.
Meine Leidenschaft sind Experimente mit verschiedenen Hilfsmitteln und Materialien wie zum Beispiel:
Kurzfilme mit und ohne Kamera - Kodak-Sofortbilder ganz ohne Kamera - Negativstreifen und Dias anders gesehen - PC-Fehler zur kreativen Weiterverarbeitung verwenden - Digitalfotografie und ihre Möglichkeiten mit einem Apple-Computer kombinieren und verfeinern - und bis heute noch vieles mehr entdecken...
