10 year ago today, Norfolk Southern SD70ACe #1065, wearing Savannah & Atlanta heritage colors, brings an eastbound double stack train up the west side of San Gorgonio Pass just prior to entering San Timoteo Canyon. This stack train, which came out of the Ports earlier in the day, is bound for interchange with the NS.

NS 1065, the Savannah & Atlanta heritage unit, trails on an empty UP ethanol trail rolling across the south side of Houston. The train, headed from Galveston to Iowa for another load to export, had a trio of NS motors up front. Unfortunately the coolest one was not in the lead.
The Savannah & Atlanta was a 142-mile railroad from Savannah to Camak, GA, where it connected with the Georgia Railroad to provide service to Atlanta. The S&A was bought by the Central of Georgia in 1951, which was in turn acquired by the Southern Railway in 1963.

So many years ago yet and it doesn't feel like it really. Western Consort is rolling into Paddington and I was using cheaper film for a change! The finances didn't extend to paying for all the outings as well as colour slides, so a little compromise was necessary sometimes.
The occasion that got us here was an onward foray from an excursion that ended at Oxford. Well, that wasn't good enough so we took the service train to London. Unfortunately Western haulage was not too handy. It was a Bank Holiday and the Westerns were taking advantage and letting the 47's and 50's do their bit. Okay, so 1065 was out and about but that was about it. There was one unidentified one at Ranelagh Bridge Yard and it was outnumbered there by three Class 47's. And they were at the front so the Western wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.
I did take some colour photos but I have yet to scan these properly - the slides are already all done .
