“Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències”, the City of Arts & Sciences, situated at the end of the former riverbed of the river Turia is an amazing architectonical complex for art, science & leisure time, one of the many must to visit when you come to the this city.

Valencia is famous for its gastronomic culture; one of the famous dishes from Valencia is the paella. However, it is not easy to find a Restaurant, which prepares a good paella, but with the help from friends in Valencia one find the right place, unfortunately some places serve a paella that taste like right out of the microwave, …well, careless "touri-food".

The top quality of rice not only for the paella is “Arroz Bomba” the rice is from the region of Valencia which produce & is recognized for the best quality rice in Spain.

Spain, Valencia, Plaza Redonda, traditionally known as "el clot", the hole. This unusual work by Salvador Escrig Melchor from the 19th century is a small (round) square with traditional market stalls, some open to the central & other ring-facing houses, located in the Historic Centre. Its lower floor occupied by shops selling all kinds of items. There is an outdoor market on Sunday mornings. The squares ring shaped building is topped by three further floors with wrought iron railings & single balconies. The fountain in the centre is from 1850.

I love when there are lots of little details, and Billie came to our shoot with a freshly prepared one. She'd just gotten her nails done, and I was going to make use of those. Claws out in double exposures, focused on the nails in another shot pulling on her necklace. Prominent hand positions, and what's more prominent than having those hands on her face? Got in close, and got the nails, the creases in her hands, the shine of her rings, a hint of tattoo in the corner to add some extra variety.

Never too many details.

Spain, Valencia, the red "stretch" in the centre is Valencia's 1,07 mtr wide & 5 floors high “Narrow House” on the small Plaza Lope de Vega in the central neighbourhood of Santa Catalina, claims the title "Europe's Narrowest House", …definitely not for claustrophobic residents.

However, more than a few cities claim to be the home of the narrowest building in the world like for instance in Amsterdam, Oude Hoogstraat 22 is said to be the narrowest, while there’s another contender in Bratislava that houses a tiny kebab shop.

So far as documented it’s beaten to the title of narrowest in the world by a few cm, it turns out there’s a 100 cm-wide house in Madre de Deus, Brazil.

Apparently, houses here in Valencia were once taxed according to the size of their façades & the family who built this house found an unusual way to lower their tax bill.

Until over a decade ago, rumour has it that the upper floors were rented to prostitutes & the people for "extramarital affairs". Over the years, the ground floor of the building has been used as a jewellery shop, a newspaper kiosk & a gift shop, until the entire building was bought by its current owners & restored in 2007.

The entrance & ground floor of the building is now part of the tapas bar next door, called "Tasquita La Estrecha", which has demolished the wall that separated them. The owners have kept the original flooring intact, as well as a collection of pictures of the interior as it once was.
