The house sat there, at 1010 N Yakima, amidst other million dollar homes, with crumpled stairs, broken bottles, boards on windows, ruined landscaping, and Do Not Enter tape.
Almost forgotten in time. I really felt drawn to take a photo.
It really is gorgeous, despite the decay. I did a quick parcel search. This house was built in 1910, and bought only eight months ago for almost a million dollars by an LLC. The parcel has been split, and this house left to ruin, so likely this old beauty will be torn down and replaced.
Traded in, as it were, for a younger and newer model. The inexorable march of time. The price of progress.
Der Wenzel-KLV machte es an diesem Tag besonders spannend. Während ein Großteil der Strecke um Spital bereits im Schatten lag, zeigte sich bei Windischgarsten glücklicherweise noch die Sonne. 1010 002 und 1110 015 waren hier als 96652 bei Windischgarsten auf der Pyhrnbahn unterwegs.
Recht häufig verkehren Holzzüge von Deutschland nach Lenzing in Österreich durch SETG bzw GCA. Zum Einsatz kommen dabei meist Vectrons von SETG. Nicht so am 14. Juli. Dort brachte 1010.02 den zweiten leeren Holzzug von Lenzing nach Passau und konnte zwischen zwei Gewittern bei Kimpling abgelichtet werden.

De vraag naar elektrische locomotieven ontstaat als in de jaren 30 het spoorwegnetwerk voor een groot deel geëlektrificeerd wordt. NS bestelt in Zwitserland locomotieven, maar door de Tweede Wereldoorlog lukt het de Zwitsers niet om ze aan Nederland te leveren.
Kort na de oorlog krijgt NS alsnog 10 machines, nummer 1001 tot en met 1010, waarvan er 3 in Zwitserland zijn gebouwd en 7 in Nederland. NS wil de locomotieven gebruiken om kolen- en goederentreinen te trekken. Door de onrustige loop en kortsluiting hebben de locomotieven steeds problemen. Ook kunnen ze de topsnelheid van 160 km/u niet halen. De maximum snelheid wordt daarom verlaagd naar 100 km/u en later naar 80 km/u voor het goederenvervoer.
De STIBANS (STIchting tot Behoud van Af te voeren Nederlands Spoorwegmaterieel) wil in de jaren 80 de 1005 bewaren, maar de locomotief gaat kapot als hij nog in gebruik is door NS. Uiteindelijk wordt de 1010 als enige locomotief van deze serie door STIBANS gered van de sloop en krijgt een plaats in het Spoorwegmuseum.
Loc 1010.10 is net met een Majestic Imperator gezelschapstrein, trein SDRV 14292 van Opatija naar Wien Westbahnhof, door grensstation Rosenbach gekomen. Schlatten, 1 mei 2022

Although my prairie location has many breeding and transient raptor species, the Osprey is the rarest of visitors; I've seen only one in more than 20 years. In the interior of British Columbia, however, and along the coast, they are a much more common sight. Water is the common denominator.
This individual was well known to me - I saw it regularly during my last year living on "the island". On this visit, it circled low to check me out. Which is exactly what it's doing in this frame with that swivelling head. Morning light.

This is the first of four shots from my favourite beach on southern Vancouver Island. I used to live about seven minutes away by car, and it was my default shoot location for several years.
Familiarity with a place can go in various directions: boredom and a failure to see its special qualities, or a deeper dive. I hope my efforts there represent the latter.
Here, tiny rivulets - no more than an inch wide - have run across the beach sand toward the intertidal zone. The sand was saturated with moisture - you can see hundreds of pock-marks from a recent rainfall - and so it absorbed the water very slowly and left a pattern of darker sediments behind.

Está situado en la región de Lika, un paraje donde se alternan lagos, cascadas y manantiales de espectacular belleza. Esta región fue declarada Parque Nacional ya en 1949, y catalogada en el Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la Unesco en 1979, con una ampliación en 2000.
El parque tiene una superficie cercana a las 30.000 hectáreas, 22.000 de ellas cubiertas de bosques. La zona que se puede visitar se encuentra en el centro del parque, son 8 km² de valle poblado de bosques, donde la hidrografía ha conformado un paisaje formado por 16 lagos de diferente altitud comunicados por 92 cataratas y cascadas. La vegetación se compone en un 90% de hayas. La visita se realiza a pie a través de senderos y puentes de madera, los lagos más grandes son recorridos por silenciosas barcas. Este parque suscita también gran interés entre los turistas por los acontecimientos que tienen lugar allí, como por ejemplo, las bodas al pie de las cataratas. Este lugar fue candidato a ser una de las siete maravillas naturales del mundo en el 2011.
