The sculpture's name is a reference to the 2010 Chile earthquake which resulted in a 1.26 microsecond shortening of the days on Earth.

The sculpture's shape was inspired by NOAA's graphic simulation of the tsunami caused by the earthquake.

One of our very favorite regions in California is the drive along the scenic Highway 1, which begins at Santa Cruz (Cabrillo Highway) and runs all the way to Southern California near Santa Barbara.

We were so fortunate to have made this trip just before Christmas, when the weather was mostly clear and highway travel was good. Now, as I share this story, I am truly saddened to see the severity of the storms that have battered California in the past two weeks. As a result, Highway 1 has been severely impacted and flooded and closed in several regions for the foreseeable future.

Here is a recent story (January 10) regarding the impact of the storms.

47291 restarts its train of limestone as it passes over the level crossing at the former North Eastern Railway outpost of Bedale with a Redmire to Tees yard train for the blast furnaces at Lackenby.

At the time, Bedale was about to be resignalled, and would lose this interesting display of semaphore signals. The signal on the right is a real rarity: one of the last surviving NER slotted lower quadrant signals.

In 2020 Bedale survives as part of the preserved Wensleydale railway, with trains operating between Leeming Bar and Redmire. Semaphores remain at at Bedale, although this display was gone by the end of 1984.

On the Network Rail network in North Yorkshire, pockets of semaphore signalling remain on the York to Scarborough and Scarborough to Hull routes.

For the past three months, I have been 1) too busy with other life stuff (Husband had knee replacement surgery and his recovery has taken up all of our time until very recently) and 2) too depressed to bother making photographs. This world has gotten to be very difficult to bear, what with the erosion of freedoms in America, people behaving badly on an all new level, Ukraine, people acting as if the pandemic is over, etc. You name it, its happening. Oh, and this just in: this is the coldest summer you will experience for the rest of your life.

Even though I don't really care about making photographs right now, I forced myself to haul out the Deardorff and the Lerebours Petzval 15" and make a couple photos. I did it just to make some small re-connection with the process, the materials, whatever emotional/intellectual connection I still have with the medium. I still feel like I am hanging on to photography by a thin thread - its possible I may retire completely at any moment and sell all my tools. Some days, the idea feels very appealing; a release from this nagging sense of responsibility - to USE the stuff. Most days I feel used up.

But I made this photograph the other evening, and its okay. In some way its just a still life, and yet its also a metaphor for the increasing sense of isolation I feel, how I despair for our species and the damage we've done to our world, the Fading of The Light. But I still like to think that there is a kind of Grace to be found in isolation - the shutting out of the noise. Finding something remarkable and beautiful in the simplicity of the everyday.

And so, I hang on to my vertigo, I hang on.

This morning I wasn't planning on a sunrise but half asleep I peered out of the window and to my dismay the sky was unfolding like molten lava outside. I quickly got dressed, grabbed my stuff and rushed to the car only to realise I had left my keys inside. Cursing and swearing I ran back to get them (scaring about 3 cats in the process) but by the time I got down to the nearest practical location it had all gone.

So now sunrises are a decent time its time to be more pro-active and organised. I am consoling myself with Thursday's sunset. This was Boscombe beach and it was positively balmy. A gentle stroll down to the beach after a massive ice cream sundae at the nearby Harvester.

Momma and 1 of her kits..

I happened to get very lucky this morning, while on a walk in a park in Winnipeg. I turned a corner and there was a momma mink and what turned out to be 3 kits.

I was able to get a few quick pictures of momma and 1 of her kits (the other 2 stayed back in the tall grass).. before momma decided to take a closer look at me and then take off with her kits in tow...

All comments regarding this picture, subject, composition, etc are welcome and appreciated. TIA.

Yo soy ardiente, yo soy morena, yo soy el símbolo de la pasión, de ansia de goces mi alma está llena.

¿A mí me buscas?

—No es a ti, no.

—Mi frente es pálida, mis trenzas de oro, puedo brindarte dichas sin fin.

Yo de ternura guardo un tesoro.

¿A mí me llamas?

—No, no es a ti.

—Yo soy un sueño, un imposible, vano fantasma de niebla y luz. Soy incorpórea, soy intangible,

no puedo amarte.

—¡Oh ven, ven tú!
