Now it starts again, the time of the candles and flickering lights, the 1st Advent is here. The name "Advent" comes from the Latin (Adventus) and means "arrival"

47291 restarts its train of limestone as it passes over the level crossing at the former North Eastern Railway outpost of Bedale with a Redmire to Tees yard train for the blast furnaces at Lackenby.
At the time, Bedale was about to be resignalled, and would lose this interesting display of semaphore signals. The signal on the right is a real rarity: one of the last surviving NER slotted lower quadrant signals.
In 2020 Bedale survives as part of the preserved Wensleydale railway, with trains operating between Leeming Bar and Redmire. Semaphores remain at at Bedale, although this display was gone by the end of 1984.
On the Network Rail network in North Yorkshire, pockets of semaphore signalling remain on the York to Scarborough and Scarborough to Hull routes.

Sometimes pain just takes you by surprise and like for an earthquake whose foreshocks you would not have noticed, a world that you had built just collapses in an instant. At that time you heart becomes like an ocean of tears.

MLW-built CP 4019 FA-1 (s/n 77314, blt 9-50) basks in the "garden" along the CP engine house in Windsor Ontario.
Finally happy with my Humvee, just don't ask to see the passenger side or rear as the parts to officially complete it were ordered about 20 minutes ago.

Day 1 of the G&W's first assimilation looked like this. The R&S began at midnight on July 21, 1986, taking over the Chessie (BR&P) 4th Sub between Rochester and Ashford Junction. Preparing to leave Brooks Yard that morning was the first R&S train to run to Salamanca. G&W 63 & 62 bookend P&LE 1585 at the South end of the yard in Gates, NY. The pair of Alco's would hold down the road train assignment for the first few weeks until used GP40's started to arrive. Chessie power would also run through from Salamanca, especially on the coal trains.
