Cerulean Warbler (Setophaga cerulea)
Female on her nest....
New Jersey
This was a rather rare discovery back in 2016. Ceruleans usually nest fairly high up in the tree canopy. Cornell All about birds states 16 to 115 feet, so this was at the lowest level.
I did a rather poor job on the processing back then, so here is a repost. The exposure was pretty good, so this has only a quick run through Topaz denoise and small crop. I was using fill flash more often back then and believe it really helped this one by filling in the shadows in the tree cover.
I couldn't believe this daisy was growing wild in the big regional park where I work. I've described the area before, a hillside adjacent to the highway where the water might run over in a big rain, and there's a culvert and rocky spring-like area near this hillside bloom as well. There was a sprinkling of these little gems. Could be a tribute to the little bobcat I was looking for that day - it found its maker on that highway yesterday. Our park staff are broken-hearted. I decided to add the vignette as a feeling of transition, life to death in this case.
