At Jan. 15's State of the State address in Topeka, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback recognized 1st Infantry Division Wounded Warriors and Kansas natives Capt. Casey Wolfe and Capt. Adam Cowan. The two attended the event as special guests of the governor.
Wolfe is from the small western Kansas town of Tribune and served with the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div., before taking command of the Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard. Cowan is from Overland Park and serves in the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div.
The following is an excerpt from Brownback's address:
"We have with us tonight some wonderful examples of what it means to be a Kansan.
"Kansas has a long and distinguished relationship with our nation’s military.
"Tonight we recognize – and thank – two brave Fort Riley soldiers wounded in service to our nation. Please welcome Capt. Adam Cowan and Capt. Casey Wolfe.
"In Kansas we honor our veterans. We remember their service with gratitude and are humbled by their commitment to this great nation.
"Honored by their commitment and sacrifice, inspired by this place, let us dedicate ourselves anew to doing the people's business."
