Amargosa Opera House and Hotel is a historic building and cultural center in Death Valley Junction, in eastern Inyo County, California near Death Valley National Park.
Resident artist Marta Becket staged dance and mime shows from the late 1960s until her final show in February 2012. The Death Valley Junction Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned by the nonprofit established by Becket for the preservation of the property.
The theater was part of a company town designed by architect Alexander Hamilton McCulloch and constructed in 1923–25 by the Pacific Coast Borax Company. The U-shaped complex of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture-style adobe buildings included company offices, employees' headquarters, a dormitory, and a 23-room hotel with a dining room, lobby, and store. At the northeast end of the complex was a recreation hall used as a community center for dances, church services, movies, funerals, and town meetings

"Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip have been “denied the conditions needed to live and to give life safely” by Israel amid its genocidal war on the enclave, according to Amnesty International, a global rights group.
Amnesty warned on Tuesday that women and girls in Gaza have been pushed “to the brink” as the Israeli war has spurred a series of hardships, from mass displacement to the destruction of the local healthcare system.
Pregnant women, as well as those who need treatment for cancer and other illnesses, have been particularly hard-hit by the lack of adequate health services in the territory, Amnesty said in a statement.
“This systematic erosion of their rights to health, safety, dignity and a future is not an unfortunate by-product of war; it is a deliberate act of war targeting women and girls,” the group said.
“It is also the foreseeable consequence of Israel’s calculated policies and practices of multiple mass displacement, deliberate restrictions on basic and essential items, as well as humanitarian relief, and two years of relentless bombardment that have devastated Gaza’s health system and decimated entire families.”
More than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023.
Israeli attacks have continued despite a US-brokered “ceasefire” that came into effect in October of last year, killing more than 600 people, according to the latest figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza."

Having got within a long lens range of a few of these Red Legged Partridge in the UK, they have simply darted for cover. On our hike in Madeira we came across four or five that were unbelievably tame. As can be seen I was using a 24-70mm lens and I didn't need to crop this one. My only issue was that they clambered over and around the rockery at great pace.
We came across these partridge at a height of around 5,000 feet and apart from a couple of Chaffinch they were the only birds we encountered all day. Apparently the Red Legged Partridge are a recent introduction to the island of Madeira.
