It will be k-k-cold this weekend. The temperature can drop to -15 degrees celcius and that means of course only one thing: skating! After a few nights of good frost we could skate on February 12, 2021 at the Gouwsea. Waterland in the winter is a real skater’s paradise. As temperatures plunge across Europe, many are cursing the cold. But not in the Netherlands. Many are hoping for further frigid conditions. Today my daughter Samantha and friend Casper are joying me skating. A historical moment since crossing the Gouwsea by skates is such a rare occurrence. Today we skate 12km from Uitdam, de Nes to Marken and back, such a beautiful sea of ice to enjoy. An infinitely beautiful sight on this icy sea in 2021. It was a pleasure. The meadows here are white, the Gouwzee completely frozen and the breath comes out of my mouth in small gray puffs. Put your hands behind your back. Breathe calmly. I enjoy the sound of the irons over the ice and the beautiful view of the snowy landscape . The ice surface is great here. Besides ice skating Dutch also love Ice yachting. This is the sport of sailing and racing iceboats and is very popular in the Netherlands. Ice boats are racing at a speed of 100 km an hour over the ice of the Gouwsea. The centre of ice yachting is in Monnickendam.
Today 12th of February 2021 we got the opportunity to go ice skating on real ice instead of going to an ice rink. A good freeze only comes from a win in the climatic lottery. Thus the chance for our Dutch to be wild adventurers on their own land comes only every few years. We glide across solidified, frosted lakes with fish frozen into the ice. The Gouwsea in the winter are a real skater’s paradise. In Monnickendam the ice is only suitable for ice yachting. From here the ice yachtings are crossing the Gouwzee to Marken. It is not often that the Gouwsea is completely frozen.
Het wordt k-k-koud dit weekend. De temperatuur kan dalen tot wel -15 graden en dat betekent natuurlijk maar één ding: schaatsennn! Na een paar nachten goede vorst konden we op 12 februari 2021 schaatsen op de Gouwzee. Na een extra nacht van vorst ligt het ijs er redelijk goed bij. Eindelijk weer heerlijk ijs om voor schaatsliefhebbers de ijzers onder te binden. Er kan heerlijk kilometers geschaatst worden tussen Uitdam, De Nes en Marken. Vandaag gaat mijn dochter Samantha mij met vriend Casper. Je beleeft de natuur op plekken waar je normaal niet kan komen. De Gouwzee is een paradijs voor schaatsers uit het westen van Nederland, omdat het meestal het eerste grootschalige gebied is waar men goed kan schaatsen op natuurijs. Maar het blijft een historische gebeurtenis. Vele schaatsenrijders zoeken vandaag de bevroren oppervlakte van de Gouwzee op voor een schaatsrit langs de dijk van Uitdam, De Nes naar Marken. Een mooie rit van zo'n 12km. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2021. Het was genieten. De weilanden zijn hier wit, de Gouwzee totaal bevroren en de adem komt in kleine grijze pufjes uit mijn mond. Handen op de rug. Rustig ademen. Ik geniet van het geluid van de ijzers over het ijs en het prachtige uitzicht over de besneeuwde landschap. Het ijs is geweldig hier. De ijszeilers hebben hun plek in Monnickendam. Hier is het ijs te slecht om te schaatsen, maar voor de ijszeilers geen probleem. Vanaf hier steken ze de Gouwzee over naar Marken. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2021. Het was genieten. Jong en oud staan op het ijs, zelfs koek en zopie is present bij de zeilclub van Monnickendam. Met spectaculaire snelheden van wel 80 tot 100 kilometer per uur razen de ijszeilers over bevroren meren en plassen: ijszeilers hebben deze dagen de tijd van hun leven. The Rozewerf is a hamlet located on the Marken peninsula surrounded by water near Amsterdam. Rozewerf still got the original look of this ancient settlement which are still the characteristic and monumental buildings. It's really just on the dike that protects the water, once the Zuiderzee now the Markermeer. The area around Rozewerf was also regularly flooded after it came to be by the sea. Eventually a low dike was constructed leaving only skipped water at larger storms. From the dike has a magnificent view over the many mounds on Marken. Rozewerf, with the right 12 icebreakers which are derived from the 12 apostles. The twelve wooden icebreakers dating in construction in 1872. They are fan-shaped situated in relation to each other. The icebreakers have cultural and historical value because it authentic in appearance and become rare examples of de-icing facilities. Since the construction of the Dam there has been no more trouble. However, it has been affected by the drifting ice in the winter. The lighthouse 'Horse of Marken' stands on its own tiny island at the end of a narrow causeway and is almost completely surrounded by water, which makes its location so photogenic. Particularly in winter, when after a long period of frost during which the IJsselmeer was largely frozen over the thaw set in and the ice was starting to drift you could shoot spectacular pictures here. Fishermen went with a sliding carriage, fishing net, long stick and axe for ice fishing like their ancestors in Marken. Fishing for sparkling and flounder was a nice additional income in those days. It looks like fun but not without risk. In the old days fishermen felt with regularity in a ice-field hole and became super cooled or even drowned.

Long sticks with a net on them were then pushed into the hole to bring in the fish. These fish are baked which were nice and crispy. De Rozewerf is een buurtschap gelegen op het voormalig Marken. Rozewerf is van oorsprong een terp, dat een werf wordt genoemd. Deze terp is niet vernoemd naar de kleur maar meer dan waarschijnlijk naar de persoon of familie Roos of Rozen, die de eigenaar of aanlegger is geweest van de werf. Net als de andere ten noorden van Rozewerf gelegen werven stammen de meeste huizen uit de 18e en 19e eeuw. In de loop van de tijd zijn deze wel flink verbouwd. Rozewerf kent net als Grotewerf nog het meest oorspronkelijke uiterlijk van deze oude bewoning waardoor het nog de karakteristieke en monumentale panden heeft. De huizen van Rozewerf staan ook erg dicht op elkaar, er is smalle doorgang door het buurtschapje. Rozewerf ligt echt maar net aan de dijk die het beschermt van het water, ooit de Zuiderzee thans het Markermeer. Het gebied rondom Rozewerf stond ook regelmatig onderwater nadat het aan zee kwam te liggen. Uiteindelijk werd een lage dijk aangelegd waardoor er alleen bij wat grotere stormen water oversloeg. Sinds de aanleg van de Afsluitdijk heeft men daar ook geen last meer van. Wel heeft men last van het kruiende ijs in de winter. Daarom staan er ook ijsbrekers net buiten de dijk in het Markermeer. Er staan 12 ijsbrekers welke zijn afgeleid van de 12 apostelen. De twaalf houten ijsbrekers dateren in aanleg uit 1872. De vuurtoren 'Paard van Marken' staat op zijn eigen piepkleine eilandje aan het einde van een smalle dijk en is bijna volledig omgeven door water, wat de ligging zo fotogeniek maakt. Vooral in de winter met het kruiend ijs kan je hier spectaculaire foto's maken. Vissers gingen net als hun voorouders in Marken met een slede, visnet, lange stok en bijl ijsvissen. In het dikke ijs moesten ze eerst een bijt hakken. Daarin werden dan lange stokken met een net eraan geschoven om de spiering binnen te halen. Het was in die tijd een mooi bijverdienste. Het ziet er leuk uit, maar niet zonder risico. Vroeger vielen vissers met regelmaat door het ijs en raakten onderkoeld of verdronken zelfs.

Photo prise lors d'une rando en boucle partielle effectuée en famille, au départ de Plan Lachat et en passant successivement par les endroits suivants : Les Mottets, Camp puis Col des Rochilles, Lac du Grand Ban, Lac Rond, Seuil des Rochilles, Lac de la Clarée, retour entre les 2 premiers lacs pour monter au Col des Cerces (2574m - point culminant de la rando), Lac des Cerces, puis retour aux Mottets et à Plan Lachat. C'est l'une des plus belles randos que nous ayons faites jusqu'à aujourd'hui et de très loin la plus belle que nous ayons faite en 2013. ❤️
Cet endroit m'a tellement plus que j'espère y retourner cet été 2021. 🙏
C'est d'ailleurs une randonnée ultra classique et très fréquentée, entre Valloire et le Galibier qui est souvent nommée la randonnée des 4 lacs ou des 3 lacs (si on retire le Lac de la Clarée ou le Lac des Cerces). On peut même voir un 5ème lac si le Lac des Mottets n'est pas à sec.
Notre séjour alpin en juillet 2013 a duré 2 semaines mais c'est la seule rando au cours de laquelle j'ai fait plus de 100 photos (et même plus de 200). Et c'est la seule rando où j'ai trouvé des photos à publier (celle-ci et plusieurs autres).
Cette photo est la seule de nos photos de montagne qui soit affichée sur un mur. Elle se trouve au-dessus de mon bureau et je la vois tous les jours ! Je souhaitais la poster depuis un moment et je suis content de la publier ENFIN ! 😊

Croatia is a country in Southeast Europe. It borders Slovenia to the northwest, Hungary to the northeast, Serbia to the east, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro to the southeast, sharing a maritime border with Italy. Croatia was part of the former Yugoslavia. A population of 4 million, most of whom are Catholics. Zagreb is the capital. Balanced between the Balkans and Central Europe, this country has been passed between rival kingdoms, empires and republics for thousands of years. If there is an advantage to this ongoing disruption, it is in the rich cultural legacy each has left behind. From Venetian palaces, Napoleonic fortresses, Slavic churches, Viennese mansions to socialist sculptures. But most attraction is the coastline with the remarkable clarity of the water and white pebbly beach. Despite being the fastest rising holiday destination in Europe in the past decade, Croatia still doesn't feel overrun by tourists. There are long sandy and winding beaches too, perfect for lazy days. Croatia is a beautiful country to discover many different landscapes. Dubrovnik is according to many one of the most beautiful cities on the Adriatic coast. This city in Croatia is also called the Pearl of the Adriatic. The historic center, or rather the completely walled fortress city of Dubrovnik, is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. This part is still in a remarkably good condition. A wonderful place to discover on foot, it is a city with a diverse, but also rough past. Remarkably, the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, as well as the various monasteries, palaces and fountains have been preserved. They all tell their own story from the Middle Ages.
Dubrovnik is a city on the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea. The history of the city probably dates back to the 7th century. The old, completely walled fortress town from the thirteenth century is located at the foot of the mountain Srđ. From the immense city walls and towers you can look out over the city and the sea. Porporela is pier and breakwater in Dubrovnik’s Old Harbour originally built in the old times to reduce the intensity of waves, reduce erosion and protect boats and ships anchored in Dubrovnik’s harbour. It is very popular Dubrovnik sight to stroll to when walking around the Old Town. Overlooking the Old Town of Dubrovnik. In the distance there is a 16th century wooden "Pirate" Ship a traditional Karaka replica. You can book a sunset cruise from the harbour in Dubrovnik.

Opvallend genoeg zijn de gotische, renaissance en barokke kerken, maar ook de diverse kloosters, paleizen en fonteinen bewaard gebleven. Ze vertellen allemaal een eigen verhaal uit de Middeleeuwen. De vestingstad uit de dertiende eeuw ligt aan de voet van de berg Srđ. Vanaf de immense stadsmuren en torens kijk je uit over de tad en de zee. Porporela is een pier en golfbreker in de oude haven van Dubrovnik, oorspronkelijk gebouwd in de oudheid om de intensiteit van de golven te verminderen, erosie te verminderen en boten en schepen die in de haven van Dubrovnik voor anker liggen te beschermen. Het is een erg populaire bezienswaardigheid in Dubrovnik om naar toe te wandelen als je door de oude binnenstad loopt. In de verte zie je een 16e-eeuws houten Piraten schip een traditionele Karaka-replica. Je kunt vanaf de haven in Dubrovnik een sunset cruise boeken.

Je suis content d'avoir réussi à poster 2 photos ce WE car je n'avais pas réussi à en poster depuis septembre (ça faisait plus de 2 semaines ...). 😊
France. Vosges. Alsace. Haut-Rhin. Photo prise lors d'une rando en boucle, effectuée seul, au départ de Katzenthal, en passant par le Neuberg, le Sommerberg, le Galtz et la croix de Meywihr. Comme le lendemain vers l'Ungersberg, j'ai pu y voir une ribambelle de parcelles de vignes teintées de magnifiques couleurs (jaune, vert et rouge).
Merci à tous les viticulteurs alsaciens de régaler nos yeux à chaque automne par leur travail acharné de toute l'année !!! 🙏😉
En 2019, je n'ai pas fait de rando dans les vignes alsaciennes pendant le magnifique mois d'octobre. Mais à la place j'ai découvert avec bonheur les environs du Hohneck à cette même période. En 2020, je n'ai pas encore pu profiter d'une belle journée ensoleillée depuis le début du mois. Certes, le mois n'est pas terminé mais c'est mal parti ...
Cette photo a été prise depuis la Croix de Meywihr. On y voit au 2ème plan le village de Kientzheim (qui se situe entre ceux de Kaysersberg et de Sigolsheim, juste avant l'entrée de la Vallée de Kaysersberg), devant les Monts de Sigolsheim. Et tout au fond on peut voir les 3 Châteaux de Ribeauvillé ainsi que le Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg. J'ai également mis 2 petits bonus en légende sur la photo. 😉
Can you see the Little Egret up there in the willow tree ? The banks of the stream are so dense with vegetation I didn't see him (or her) until he flew up from the opposite bank. This is another one taken with my iPhone 11 while out on a morning walk with Marnie very recently.

On the extreme left side of the beach is a third platform, Ahu Niho Pou, without statues and almost covered by the sand. On one of the stone blocks of the façade is a reproduction of a symbol of the Rongo Rongo (talking tablets) script, which, according to tradition, was associated with Anakena.

Mon absence totale de connexion Internet pendant 2 semaines à Quiberon cet été a eu quelques bons côtés, comme celui de me donner du temps pour trier les photos d'anciennes sorties, comme celle-ci dans le Vercors l'été 2018.
France. Alpes. Massif du Vercors. Photo prise lors d'une rando en A/R au cours de laquelle je suis monté seul au de Tête Chevalière (1951m), en partant du village de Chichilianne, en passant par le Pas de l'Essaure et en longeant les magnifiques falaises du Ravin du Ruisseau des Arches.
Cette photo a été prise près du sommet de Tête Chevalière, avec une superbe vue sur 2 des principales vedettes du Vercors, à savoir :
o Sa star incontestée : le Mont Aiguille (2087m),
o Son point culminant : le Grand Veymont (2341m).
Je me réjouissais beaucoup de faire cette rando, en espérant faire plein de beaux clichés du Mont Aiguille sous son profil que je trouve le plus beau. Mais je n'ai pas été très chanceux car le Mont Aiguille a été dans l'ombre en permanence, à part un tout petit bout au soleil de temps en temps, comme sur cette photo. Malgré tout, j'ai quand même pu ramener de beaux clichés avec d'autres sujets qui ont été un peu plus généreusement ensoleillées. J'en publierai peut-être à l'occasion.

Pompei is a city and commune in the Metropolitan City of Naples in Italy, home of the ancient Roman ruins part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city is mainly famous for the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii. Pompeii city and its people was buried under 4 to 6 m of volcanic ash and pumice in the big eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The first stable settlements on the site date back to the 8th century BC. In Roman times it was a flourishing city with about 12,000 inhabitants. The Statue of a Centauro, a mythical creature, half horse and half man, is displayed in the ruined heart of the city of Pompeii. It's a Bronze art sculpture by Polish artist Igor Mitorja. The Forum is the core of daily life of the city and is the focal point of all the main public buildings for city administration and justice, business management, and trade activities such as markets. The square of the Forum originally looked like a simple open area next to the Sanctuary of Apollo, whereas the eastern side had a row of shops. The axis of the square became the façade of the Temple of Jupiter, aligned with Mount Vesuvius. The temple of Apollo was also being restored at the time of the eruption. It is one of the oldest temples in the city, Apollo being the main divinity in early Pompeii.

De stad staat vooral bekend om de ruïnes van de oude stad Pompeï. De stad Pompeii en haar inwoners werden begraven onder 4 tot 6 m vulkanische as en puimsteen tijdens de grote uitbarsting van de Vesuvius in 79 na Christus. De eerste nederzettingen op de site dateren uit de 8e eeuw voor Christus. In de Romeinse tijd was het een bloeiende stad met ongeveer 12.000 inwoners. Het standbeeld van een Centauro, een mythisch wezen, half paard en half mens, wordt weergegeven in het verwoeste hart van de stad Pompeii. The actual name of the tall sculpture on the left created by Liu Jianhua is "Global Magnet" and the original Chinese name is just one word: "磁" (cí ="Magnet") - it stands 17.5 m tall in front of the SWFC.

[ESP] La ciudadela de la Alhambra, asentada sobre el Cerro de al-Sabika, en Granada (España), es uno de los complejos arquitectónicos más importantes de la Edad Media y máximo exponente del arte islámico en Occidente. Su historia comienza en el siglo IX con propósitos militares, fue paulatinamente ampliándose y en el siglo XIII, con la llegada del primer monarca nazarí Mohamed ben Al-Hamar, se inició la construcción de los palacios que marcaron su época de mayor esplendor. Tras la conquista de Granada por los Reyes Católicos en el siglo XV se hicieron reformas y Carlos V inició la construcción del palacio que lleva su nombre. En el siglo XVIII quedó abandonada. In fact, the valley owns eight volcanoes inside, one the reasons Alexander von Humboldt named the region "Avenue of Volcanoes".
When many think of Ecuador, we often think of Galapagos and the equator, but it’s not always the case that Ecuador is thought of in tandem with the majestic Avenue of the Volcanoes that it sits along. That’s right, Ecuador is full-on Volcano Country! But fear not, for this does not by any means detract from how impressively safe the country is to visit! If anything, it adds tremendously to the overall geographic and scenic beauty that’s found throughout. Ecuador is home to 47 volcanoes in total (both active and extinct), with 15 in volcanoes Galapagos and 32 on the mainland.
The small country is the third in number of volcanoes, it only loses to the continent countries, USA and Russia, but it does not lose in altitude, the highest in the world.

With its elevation of 5,023 metres (16,480 ft), Tungurahua just over tops the snow line (about 4,900 metres (16,100 ft)).
Tungurahua's top is snow-covered and did feature a small summit glacier which melted away after the increase of volcanic activity in 1999.

The history of the town has been intimately linked to the highly-active Tungurahua volcano. In October 1999, all 17,000+ residents were forced to evacuate the city for weeks.

In 1999 the Tungurahua volcano was activated and the population of Baños was completely evacuated. Since that year, the Tungurahua remains active presenting major eruptions in 1999, 2000 and 2006.

I climbed this volcano (summit) in two days. One of the days (the last day), from 2 am to 7 am.

are the largest freshwater turtles in the world. Their heavy heads, strong jaws and hooked beaks give them a prehistoric appearance, and their carapace, or shell, is spiked.

At the gates of La Paz, the Valley of the Moon is a sort of desert of rocks sculpted by the elements, with lots of fairy chimneys.
The site is well laid out with trails on which we can discover this geological curiosity.

Tonight, we sleep in an Indian community on Lake Titicaca, we are at 3812 m (12507 ft) altitude .
A change of scenery guaranteed !
The comfort was rustic, and there was no heating to overcome the cold of the night at this altitude. But fortunately, big wool blankets locally made kept us warm.

Ce soir , nous dormons dans une communauté indienne au bord du lac Titicaca, on est à 3812 m d'altitude. Un dépaysement garanti !
Le confort était rustique, et il n'y avait pas de chauffage pour pallier au froid vif de la nuit à cette altitude.
Mais heureusement, de grosses couverture en laine faites sur place nous ont tenu bien chaud.

An incredible light bathed Machu Picchu as we went down to the site. It illuminated and enhanced the unbelievable architecture of this outstanding Inca city, like a huge stone vessel on the mountain.
