Gracie was euthanized tonight. Her stomach bloated and then torsed. gastric dialatation and volvulous (GDV). Surgery was the only way to correct the problem. Given her heart issues it was not a realistic option.

tonight while I was feeding her I commented to her that I was so happy to see her prancing for her dinner. She was doing so well on her new diet and meds.

She ate well tonight. At about 9-9:30 I noticed she was not comfortable and her respiration was elevated. I listened to her and her lungs sounded clear. She retched once, I listened to her lungs again and still clear, I listened to get stomach and no gas, but it was distended and painful. I gave her lasix incase she was having respiratory issues, she retched unproductively some more so I took her to the ER and they xrayed her belly. As soon as I saw it I knew what was going down.

i am very sad and cannot sleep. I will miss her so much. I am glad to have had her.

Lulu had a very eventful Friday. She went for a long walk on the Seawall, played at the Doggie Park, swam in the ocean, actually swam so far out that her Mom Victoria was worried she was going to have to strip down and retrieve her. Then she came over to visit her Auntie (me). We rolled and jumped and smooched all over the place until poor little girl just crashed

Then on their way home Lulu thought she saw a furry friend to play with, unfortunately it was our resident skunk. Both her and her Mom got sprayed. Between gagging, retching, making all kinds of gruesome noises (and that was only Victoria and me) we managed to clean her up. None of this seemed to bother Lulu, she liked all the attention and wriggled and giggled all over the place, including Victoria bed, where she rolled and rolled in great delight, spreading skunk all over.

Perhaps this is the latest & greatest version of the McCain-Palin sign. It's the only one I've seen so far with the red embellishment, apparently intended to reinforce the notion of Palin as "Ms. Lipstick." I would guess that this either makes one feel like saying "Isn't that just the cutest?" Or, "Excuse me while I step over here and retch."

as we were out on the trail, I suddenly got VERY sick.

This is not super-interesting in and of itself, though it was unfortunate and not really predicted by anything else. What's weird, is that across the country, my bestie suddenly also got very ill where he was. Hmmmmmm.

I was sick enough that Si left me, went for the car, and drove back so that I wouldn't have to ride the trail back retching. Blech.

On the plate: Beans, a hashbrown, soda bread, white pudding, black pudding, and two eggies.

White pudding: "Consists of pork meat and fat, suet, bread, and oatmeal formed into the shape of a large sausage." (Wikipedia entry)

Not the most appetizing thing to imagine eating, but I tried the black pudding. It was kind of gritty, and the idea of eating pig blood made me retch slightly.

SUDDEN DEATH IN VICTORIA STREET.

An old man named Robert Goose was found dead in his bed to-day. The deceased has resided in the house of Mr Townshend, Victoria Quadrant, for the last three years. Goose was about 75 years of age and was a native of Putney, England. He is not known to have had any relatives in the colony. Formerly Goose was in business as a tailor in Auckland, but for the last few years has been in receipt of rations from the Charitable Aid Board. About twelve months ago his only sister died in England, and left him a small sum of money, which has kept him during the last few months of his life. He has been in New Zealand for over 45 years. Mrs Sarah Townshend states she last saw deceased alive abouti 4.30 p.m. yesterday. The old man was then leaning upon the fence, coughing and retching violently. She said to him —"Go and see a doctor or you'll be found dead, and then look at the trouble that will be." He replied that he had been to Hill the chemist's last Saturday, and got some salts. He then went outside, and she did not see him again until 1.30 p.m. today, when she looked into the room, not having heard him moving about. She at once saw that he was dead and had been so for some time, as the body was quite cold. He complained frequently about a pain in his chest but would not see a doctor. He would often moan as if in pain.

The matter was reported to Sergeant McMahon, who went up to make enquiries. An inquest will be held to-morrow.

An inquest was held yesterday afternoon at the Greyhound Hotel, by Dr. Philson, coroner, and a jury of whom Mr. Adams was chosen foreman, on the body of Robert Goose, tailor, who died suddenly on the previous day. Deceased, it appeared, lived in Victoria Quadrant with Mr. Daniel Townshend. He was found dead in bed on Wednesday aftetnoon, and had been dead for many hours before the fact was discovered. Evidence was given by Mrs. Townshend as to finding the body, Sergeant McMahon and Dr. Girdler. The doctor made a post mortem of the body, and found that death was caused by heart disease. The jury returned a verdict of "Death from natural causes." Deceased was an old Auckland identity, and was well known, for the last quarter of a century.
