Here's a Vertorama i took on the same walk as yesterdays shots with Noodle the Golden Doodle. We'd been walking through a canopy of trees for about half an hour when we came out into dazzling sunlight and this amazing blue field of linseed (flax) flowers all topped off with a sprinkling of fluffy cumulus clouds and some majestic oak trees.

Seattle, with a population of 609,000, is the 23rd largest city in the United States. The 24th largest city is the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. (or what Seattleites call “the other Washington”).
Some trivia:
Washington State is the only state named after a U.S. president, and the only state in the western US with an English name. All the surrounding states and their neighbors have names derived from either Spanish or Native American origin.
There is only one “Seattle” on the planet. No other city or town in the world shares its name.

Good to be back on Flickr!
I'm back earlier than expected. My original trip got cancelled because of snow storms but I managed to go for a much shorter trip to this beautiful place called Mussoorie which is in the northern part of India.
As you can figure out from this image, Mussoorie is a hill station (a very popular one at that) and a lot of people visit this place specially during the summers (which is now). It used to be a small village with just a few houses but now it is among the most popular destinations for people who want to escape the heat. We certainly did!
This is a view of the Shiwalik Ranges from one of the many view points in the town. Hope you guys like it!
--
About Mussoorie:
Mussoorie is a city and a municipal board, about 34 km from Dehradun and in Dehradun district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. This hill station, situated in the foothills of the Himalaya ranges, is also known as the Queen of the Hills. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of 'greater Mussoorie', as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani.
About Mussoorie:
Uttarakhand, formerly Uttaranchal, is a state located in the northern part of India. It is often referred to as the Land of Gods due to the many holy Hindu temples and cities found throughout the state, which are some of Hinduism's most spiritual and auspicious places of pilgrimage and worship. Known for its natural beauty, it was carved out of Himalayan and adjoining north-western districts of Uttar Pradesh on 9 November 2000, becoming the 27th state of the Republic of India. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region on the north, Nepal on the east and the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh to the south, Haryana to the west and Himachal Pradesh to the north west.

A quiet afternoon at Arthur River was exciting to say the list. Some rough seas, an oncoming shower of rain in the distance and just that little peak of light through the clouds to light that foreground up just a touch. And of course, one rogue wave.
Can you go wrong at Arthur River? Absolutely not! I reccommend it to anyone to stay for a night - plenty of accommodation in the township, a little general store and fish and chip shop, and the Marrawah Tavern only a good 10ks away for a decent pub meal. Just watch out for the paddymelons and Bennett's Wallabies on the road at night - they tend to feed just off to the side of the road, and I stopped to standstill about 3 times, and they sauntered off back into the scrub (checking for cars first of course!).
The road around to the lookout is full of animals too, something to keep an eye out for and well, looking little furry creatures is just fun and exciting.

Arthur River
Arthur River is the name of both a river and a small township on the northern part of the West Coast of Tasmania, Australia. At the 2006 census, Arthur River and the surrounding area had a population of 121.
It is south of the town of Marrawah. Named after Sir George Arthur, Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemens Land (1824-36), the river is fed by several tributaries including the Frankland River, which was named after its discoverer, then the colony's surveyor-general. The region has been exploited commercially for timber and fisheries, but today is mostly a centre for tourism.
On the coast near the mouth of the Arthur River is a plaque titled The Edge of the World. North West Coast Tasmania, and a poem by tourism pioneer Brian Inder, who coined the term, referring to the coastline at Arthur River which is regularly lashed by the gales of the Roaring Forties.

So fixing my hair didn't work apparently :P
I was gonna write about how my hair is the result of a ton of backcombing and only 1 hairgrip, but then I realised I edited the poop out of it anyway so it wouldn't exaclty be truthful. It was pretty tall though...just not this tall...
I might add more details to this photo, 'cause I have a few more ideas for it, but I wanted to post it already.
You can probably see that Flickr sharpened the shit out of it. I don't mind...

As much as I love mountains and seascapes, a scene can still have abundant beauty even without them. I love how those horses are happily grazing in the distance with the sunset behind them. Timeless film shot.

Cataract Gorge
Launceston
This was the first dawn of our trip to Tasmania. It was a grey dawn as I wandered around the darkness of Cataract Gorge hoping to spot something in the dark (having never been there before). For the 5 minutes from 655 to 7am, this happened in the sky and I happened to be at the right place and the right time to capture it reflected it in the water.

View on black please.
I thought I'd go all scary again. I was watching the Prague sunrise from the Charles Bridge (Karlův most) and had just changed to my 50mm to get some different shots.
Suddenly this bird swooped in and I rushed to catch it as it landed on this statue; one of the many beautiful statues that run along the bridge. Luckily there were some interesting clouds in the background to make it even spookier.
There has been very little done to this photo, save for the monochroming with Nik Silver Efex Pro and some contrast / curves in Potatoshop.
As this is a dark photo, it looks much more mysterious on black. (Press L). Bonus points for the first person to tell me where the title came from... (No googling!)
No group images in comments please.
Edit
I actually had no idea it was Friday 13th when I posted this, so it's a really spooky coincidence...

The other day I was monitoring the San Francisco weather when I noticed some promising fog lingering around the San Francisco Bay Area. The fog later appeared, so I drove REALLY fast towards the Golden Gate Bridge. As I approached, I noticed the road leading to Battery Spencer was closed. A panic ensued and I had no choice but to shoot it from Fort Baker. As I was shooting from Ft. Baker the moon started to rise and I thought to myself, "Man, it would be awesome to shoot the bridge with the moon over the Bridge"!
The fog was really nice from down below so I spent about an hour shooting a few frames. As I was driving back home I noticed the road leading to Battery Spencer had reopened. I drove up and spent another hour enjoying this MAGNIFICENT scene. I tried so hard to frame the moon right over the north tower and have the south tower completely covered in fog. This image is a result of that effort. I really like how the moonlight provided the light in the sky and a created a great shadow of the bridge. During this photo shoot, I had the opportunity to finally meet an awesome Bay Area landscape shooter Huggen. Be sure to check out his rendition of this amazing scene. May the light be with you this weekend. Thanks for your constant support and visits. Jave

Saibi (Saibigain) is a mountain in Urkiola Natural Park of the communities Mañaria Abadiño (Biscay). It is 945 m high with a large cross on the summit. This is in memory of the Basque soldiers who died in 1937.
The Urkiola Nature Park is one of the most unique ecosystems in the Basque country and extends over Álava (15%) and Biscay (85%). You can find it in the mountains of Duranguesado. The first you see are his comb-shaped limestone formations, which have less vegetation and forms a very beautiful contrast to the lush forests in the lower areas. It is structured by the Sierra de Anboto and the Sierra de Aramotz, extending northwest and southeast. The highest point of the park is the Anboto summit with a height of 1,330 m. The human settlements go back to prehistory and today dominates the traditional animal husbandry and forestry exploitation in this area (www.spain.info).

This is the third shot posted from a series back at the start of the New Year. The most similar from that series is in the comments below, linking back to notes on the when and where.
Generally I wouldn't post two so similar, but a few months have passed and this one still appeals. It isn't so outrageous an image, but there's a natural class about it that I keep returning to. So here it is.
I've got this location in mind for some light painting soon, but it's a little scary at night even with an imaginary dog). Last time I was down here at night, my flashlight chanced upon a couple of flip flops perfectly placed on a rock, way out at sea. With the moaning of the wind it sent a pretty horrific chill up my spine.
Hope everyone is having a great week!
The two exponents of the kalaripaiyuttu demonstrate the technique of the Elephant to withstand weight and pressure and keeping a stable posture. Strength and fortitude come from training along with concentration. The various schools of martial arts from dojos to dojos have different styles and kung fu in particular has highly stylised animal movements ingrained from canton to canton.
Kalaripaiyuttu how ever does not suffer from the fact that sharp weapons are not allowed in actual combat and practice. There were no restrictions on carrying of arms etc in India unlike China where most were not allowed to carry any weapons whatsoever. So as a result you get to witness regular routines with swords, knives, flailing metal strips, sticks etc etc.
This was shot on the sandy banks of the river Bharatapuzzah in North Kerala where the young warriors had gathered a large congregation of exponents of the ancient martial art of kalaripaiyyuutu. Kalari clubs representing various towns and villages.
After a long hectic march late in the evening to the venue on the river bank ensued the usual gaggle of speeches by functionaries in Malayalam, mercifully short. While that was going on the brave sun was dying on the western horizon in a gaily burst of reds and yellows. Here it was more or less gone and the day had suddenly transformed into an inky black night. Most of the details have been obtained in processing and smoothing out the highly noisy background.
The flash was used on purpose here as there was no available light to shoot.

Once every year or two, the rising sun ray shines along the Catholicon and the Rotunda into the entrance to the Aedicule, which contains the Sepulcher itself, for about 15 minutes and illuminate the inner rooms of the Aedicule. This alignment is too precise to be widely considered to be formed by chance since, it only happens during the holy week of Pascha/Easter. In this photo a newly positioned Armenian bishop in Jerusalem was blessed with the holy light in his back, and in way to intensify it is usually customary to blend the light with smoke from incense burners. It was a very special moment for either believers or non-believers alike.
