This was shot over 3 or 4 nights during June-July. I only decided to make a mosaic after shooting the Lagoon and Trifid nebs and thinking it would be pretty awesome to show the whole area off as there is so much going on! Unfortunately, with the spur of the moment decision to take this on, i was left with no time to complete it before the Milky Way sank out of reach. I intended to make this a 15 panel mosaic but only managed 4! But i will be better prepared next year :)

This was a hard one to process. Its my first long exposure astro mosaic so i struggled with trying to make everything blend together seamlessly. Each panel being shot on a different night at different temperatures didn't help either. Especially one panel which i only managed 45 minutes on due to cloud ruining a lot of the frames. I had to stretch it first and then bring the rest of them up to the same point. If i had managed the same amount of exposure time on each one, i could of probably stretched a bit further!

Exposure Details:

3 panels contains 1 hour 20 minutes worth of 120 second exposures, the other 44 minutes worth, f3.2, ISO 800, calibration frames, 200mm

Tão feliz a manhã

Deste amor ♫

After I was taking the photos with the ND filter, the sun came out for a really short time. I liked the contrast between the warm light on the rocks in front, to the cold, metallic look of the background.

After roaming around the south hill one night in search of a good vantage point high enough to get an unobstructed view of the city, I finally stumbled upon this spot, which is probably about as good as it gets for full viewpoints of downtown. The wide angle made it seem small and diminutive, so I opted for a 9-shot panorama instead and this was the result.

To see the extraordinary panorama of Lake Garda, nothing is better than the hiking path from Campione to Prapione. A view on Mount Baldo - 2218m in the clouds with a spectacular panoramic terrace overlooking Lake Garda. Mountain hiking or trekking is an adventure and an experience that brings you in contact with the mountains and nature. Since some itineraries can be difficult for an amateur or untrained excursionist or mountain climber, caution is advised. Starting out from Campione, along the right banks of the Campione River, is trail nr. 267 of the Bassa via del Garda - Lower Garda Route with a series of steps that lead to a tunnel, make sure you have a flashlight with you and a communication trench between a canal and a deep ravine. Leaving the metal bridge to your right, you proceed along trail nr. 266 for Prabione, which is right up against the rocks. Gradually, the panorama opens on the valley. Due to the influence of Lake Garda's climate, the mountain is home to many different natural environments: from Mediterranean shrubs and bushes to Alpine pastures and rocky peaks. This is why Mount Baldo covered in clouds is called The Garden of Europe and is a genuine link between the Alps and the Mediterranean.

Lake Garda hiking is brilliant with so many spectacular places to go for a hike. The stunning mountains around the top part of the lake offers awesome views. Photo of the hiking path Prabione to Campione. Total difference in height round trip: 940 m - duration 4 hrs. See map.

Those clouds looked really creepy, as they slowly swallowed the whole landscape... Unfortunately the sky was rather dull, so I had to add quite a bit of processing to get some blue out of it...

The Storr is a rocky hill on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye. The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west.

The area in front of the cliffs of the Storr is known as the Sanctuary. This has a number of weirdly shaped rock pinnacles, the remnants of ancient landslips. The most famous of these, and by far the largest and most apparent when approaching from the south, is known as the Old Man of Storr (Bodach an Stòir).

In January 2012, production of the science-fiction film Prometheus moved to the Isle of Skye, with filming taking place at the Old Man of Storr.

It is located rue Mouffetard, the street led Lacépède and Cardinal Lemoine and is a focal point of the district as it is the center of the four administrative districts that are Saint-Victor, Jardin des Plantes, Val-de -Grace and Sorbonne.

Feliz QUINTA-FLOWER !!

The term, graffiti, referred to the inscriptions, figure drawings, and such, found on the walls of ancient sepulchers or ruins, as in the Catacombs of Rome or at Pompeii. Use of the word has evolved to include any graphics applied to surfaces in a manner that constitutes vandalism.

The only known source of the Safaitic language, a form of proto-Arabic, is from graffiti: inscriptions scratched on to the surface of rocks and boulders in the predominantly basalt desert of southern Syria, eastern Jordan and northern Saudi Arabia. Safaitic dates from the first century BC to the fourth century AD.

.... this was possible today. After a long time filled with grey and cold days we had about 6 hours sunshine today. Although it was not so warm but the feeling of Spring was there during my walk this afternoon. I am looking forward to see such wonderful blooming scenes like in the photo above.

The morning 10th of Februari I woke up to see Amsterdam covered in a coat of fresh snow. The snow fell in sudden flurries and gusts and turned the world white and wonderful. With the canals in the city and occasional high winds, there can be a nip in the air, but packing gloves and a scarf should keep you warm enough. There is something very beautiful about Amsterdam in the winter. It does occasionally snow in Amsterdam in February, but that almost always means just a light dusting. I walk in my neighbourhood and made some photos of the snow. When it snows the light and atmosphere is really beautiful. The steep bridges over the canals in Amsterdam are really slippery, especially for cars. The best way to travel in the snow is by bicycle, tram, walking or better by sleds. Who knows times of Hendrick Avercamp are coming back this year. Avercamp was the first Dutch artist to specialize in paintings of winter landscapes featuring people enjoying the ice. Some 400 years on, our image of life in the harsh winters of the Golden Age is still dominated by Avercamp’s ice scenes with their splendid narrative details of couples skating, children pelting each other with snowballs and unwary individuals falling through the ice.

After the snow blizzard of last night in Amsterdam the weather cleared up dramatically and we were treated to bright blue skies and lot of sunshine. This morning I walk in my neighbourhood and made some beautiful photos of the snow. The virgin white carpet of snow is crunching under my shoes. I began to remember why I love the winters so much. Besides the inconvenience causes by the snow there is also fun for children here in the Jordaan. Snowballs, snowmen or sledding. All fun activities that children and even adults above do in this beautiful snowy world. Reliving childhood memories when snowball rolling.

Sneeuwballen gevecht, sneeuwpoppen maken of sleetje rijden.

Buzz lightyear, The Moon, Jupiter and ISS (International Space Station)! I posted this picture onto Col. Chris Hadfield's ( Commander of the International Space Station) Facebook page and he responded :-) It's not everyday you get someone on a space station commenting on one of your photos from earth orbit!

This shot took a bit of organizing, calculation, preperation and luck! Firstly I knew when and where the ISS would be visible so I had to set up a large Rock and place Buzz on it and then I had to get the low POV right so as the composition was just right with the Moon, Jupiter, Buzz and of course the ISS. Then the task of how much focus to use on Buss and the background, as he was the "Star", pardon the pun, of the show I weighted it more on him. I had to practice the exposure times and ISO settings to get that right and then the light painting of the forground to make sure I wasn't over exposing it.

Just as it was about to all came together, some cloud slowly appeared creeping in, ready to ruin the shot! The ISS was right on time though, I activated the shutter, took two steps to the left and using my head lamp, light painted the foreground for a count of 2 seconds approx. With nervously excitement I turned away and waited for the shutter to close. I had my shot!

30 seconds later the clouds did indeed roll in, luck was on my side!!

Created for Sliders Sunday

I actually wanted to upload another shot of the huge miners lamp from my last upload, but the weather was great last night to get out and play with some light painting. I was inspired by some shots of Vicki Tate who gave me some advice how to do shots like this. I think for my first try the result is not that bad :)

Have a wonderful weekend every one!

This weekend I had the pleasure of catching up with Paul C Stokes, Martin Turner and The Green Album for some photography. First off we started off shooting in Bristol but after an hour or so we made it over to Weston-Super-Mare to catch a sunset. There were some very nice looking clouds in the sky and I was really looking forward to grabbing a rare sunset picture to add to my collection; unfortunately it was low tide so there wasn’t the opportunity to get a perfect reflection of the pier but I decided to try and see what the wet sand would offer.

Many thanks very much guys for driving me around!!!

I’ve got a few more pictures to go through but after a long journey home, the travelling has finally caught up with me, so I’ll have to take a look at these later in the week.

Have a great evening all and I’ll catch up with you guys tomorrow :-)

Digging through my archives, I found this image. This was shot in Subic Bay, Olongapo City, Philippines and this location used to be the biggest overseas US Naval Base until its closure in 1991. There are more interesting spots to shoot in this location and I know I will be back. However, the question is when?
