The hill on the right,Conachcraig, was meant to be our target today, but in these conditions there was no way we were going to make it safely so it's off to see what wildlife we can find.

On a side note, the conical summit in the centre is Meikle Pap. 'Pap' in Gaelic translates to 'Breast' .. !

Bound for Chicago, a Metra train sprints through Wheaton on a wintry Sunday morning. My intention had been to continue with my Thai agricultural series but, with the recent onslaught of arctic air here in the Upper Midwest, I decided to temporarily put the rice on ice :) Stay warm friends! Or, if you live in a warm climate, ice versa :)

In 1819, Sir Thomas Raffles negotiated a treaty whereby Johor allowed the British to locate a trading port on the island. The Sultan of Johor is the sovereign ruler of the Malaysian state of Johor. It all was leading to the establishment of the British colony of Singapore in 1819. The port was strategically located along the main trade route between India and China. Singapore became an independent republic in 1965. Nowadays the country has become one of the world's most prosperous nations, with a highly developed free market economy and strong international trading links. Tourism in Singapore is a major industry and is the 5th most visited city in the world. Along with this, it also has one of the world's lowest crime rates. Public transport is easy when visiting Singapore. This includes the well-known Mass Rapid Transit system. MRT trains are fully automated without driver! Singapore is a green and clean city. It is also full of natural attractions and cultural heritage sites, from botanic gardens and nature parks to temples and museums. Chinatown is a small piece of China in the heart of Singapore. Once an enclave for Singapore’s Chinese immigrant population, the Chinatown of today is much-beloved for its blend of old and new, with historic temples and traditional medicinal halls sitting alongside hip new bars and lifestyle shops. You also can't miss the three monstrous towers of Marina Bay Sands which stand at the Marina Bay waterfront. Apart from the casino, the Marina Bay Sands also has a shopping mall, resorts, museums, theatres, an ice skating rink, and a Skydeck with an infinity pool. Next to the hotel are the Gardens by the Bay. The beautiful Gardens by the Bay light up in the evening with a free light and sound show. But the park consists of much more. There are three gardens: Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden. In addition, there are two conservatories with botanical gardens, and the SuperTree Grove, with its well-known OCBC Skywalk. Definitely worth a visit.

Getting around Singapore by MRT (train) is simple. Singapore's public transport system is fast and efficient, and brings you to memorable attractions in no time. Take a refreshing walk in the award-winning Gardens by the Bay of Singapore. Of the 18 Supertrees in Gardens 12 of them can be found here above at Supertree Grove, with the tallest one measuring up to 50 metres tall. The Supertrees come alive with an exhilarating display of lights and sounds at night. See the gardens from a different point of view from the OCBC Skywalk. Beside the Supertree Grove there are beautiful inspiring gardens. Set in the heart of the city, this green space comprises three beautiful waterfront gardens of total 101 hectares.

Naast het hotel liggen de Gardens by the Bay.

Last update of 2018, so time for a collage of the best pics that I've posted over the last year.

There have been some pretty tough times for me in my real world in the last year, but thankfully things are starting to look up. My girl side is always a welcome distraction, and although I don't dress up as much as I used to, I still love having a girly day when I can.

What really has rejuvenated my girl side was starting to go out again after giving it a miss for over a year. A couple of fabulous nights out to BNO and a welcome return to Torture Garden have been truly amazing, and it's been great to catch up with so many old friends and making some lovely new friends on the way too.

Thank you again to everyone that leaves comments or favourites my pics, it really is appreciated :)

I'm really looking forward to 2019, and wishing you all a Happy New Year.

Smoke and haze filled the air around Mt. Hood, OR as fires burned in Western Canada. A view from above timberline on the southern flank of Mt. Hood - late August 2018.

45 miles away, Mt Jefferson can be seen rising above the haze.

The Wildalpjoch is a 1720 meter high mountain in the Bavarian Alps. It is surrounded by the peaks of Wendelstein, Kesselwand, Soin and Hochsalwand. In the south is the Sudelfeld. It is a rather more frequented by locals and therefore less frequented than its neighbor Wendelstein. But you have almost the same view. In winter, the summit is a popular destination for ski touring enthusiasts.

I took the chance and used the last warm and sunny weekend for a wonderful hike and photography tour. You can see the Brünnstein mountain in the foreground and the Tyropl alps in the background. The warm falling wind the so called Föhn has blown the clouds away so that you have a beautiful distant view.

Every year, around the last weekend of August or perhaps 1st weekend of September, a street car show takes place here in Manchester, the so called "Cruising Downtown". And for every pertrolhead/car enthusiast this is a grade A opportunity to admire some really cool cars. Like this 1966 Shelby Cobra for example, also called AC Cobra in UK. It is powered by the classic "side oiler" 7,0L V8 Ford engine delivering roughly 425HP (and allowing the car to have a whopping top speed of 164MPH) and while some people may think this is a Ford car, it's not. The manufacturer is AC (Auto Carriers Ltd) in UK or Carroll Shelby in the US. Ford, however, played a significant role developping this car as, aside from the giving it its hear (the engine), it also cooperated in the design of it. This is the 3rd Generation of the car and probably the most popular one.

The day before the arrival of the Arctic cold front.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Another one from the great photowalk with Flickr friends at an abandoned sanatorium back in March this year.

Before (or after) reading my description, please check this out:

STRG / CTRL + www.flickr.com/photos/digifred/45612581164/ and see what Digifred.nl did with it :-) A gorgeous cooperation, thank you, Fred!

In one of the buildings there was this one wing where artists had been given the opportunity to "decorate" the rooms with art installations. Actually all of them had come up with something more or less creepy, some had addressed the fact that this had been a hospital once, others had gone for a more general "horror" approach. Like this room. My first impression was that of a horror movie like "Blair Witch Project", but actually this reminds me as much, actually much more, of a creepy adventure game - minus the puzzles, occasional jump scares, and "real" ghosts [well, "real"... ;-)]. My title, the first part of it, is borrowed from a favourite adventure game series of mine, "Dark Fall" (created by Cornwall-based game designer Jonathan Boakes). I played his first game, "Dark Fall: The Journal", then described as "Myst with ghosts", back in 2002, and was an instant fan ;-). Actually I didn't find this (or any of the other "art rooms") too scary, the sun shone outside, birds were singing, doors and windows were wide open, people were there, so everything was just fine - but what I found really unsettling here is the clouded mirror in the left corner. In German we call clouded glass / mirrors "blind", and blind this mirror was. Or was it? Just because I couldn't see my (not that I actually tried to) or the room's reflections doesn't mean that whatever is behind that mirror can't see the room. Or us. Shiver ;-)

The first of two door captures for 2DWF's theme "Door(s) / Puerta(s)". The other will be rather spooky as well, but was taken at another abandoned place. Stay tuned!

Bevor Ihr weiterlest, schaut mal hier, was [https://www.flickr.com/photos/digifred/] daraus Feines gemacht hat: STRG / CTRL + www.flickr.com/photos/digifred/45612581164/ Dank u wel, Fred :-)

Falls Ihr heute Halloween feiert: viel Spaß dabei ;-)

Thamudic and Nabataean inscriptions, depicting camel caravans, hunting warriors and various animals, are common throughout the Wadi Rum area. The Alameleh inscriptions, near the Seven Pillars of Wisdom and on the edge of the Diseh district, are some of the most comprehensive and best preserved.

The desert trips with the jeeps are well organised and I would recomend the 4 hour jeep trip, any excursion will be organised for you by Mr khaled.

OK, some of you might prefer "Don't Marry Be Happy", but... ;-) I myself have no experience with being married whatsoever, so I can't really say what I'd prefer ;-)

Fun upload for the weekend, also for Smile on Saturday's theme "(K)NOT SO BAD!", Sliders Sunday, and 2DWFs "A New Beginning". I hope it qualifies for HSOS, there is a knot, albeit a rather small one. But I think it's an important one: the one that ties the tins - which are supposed to bring good luck and happiness to the couple - to the bride's car. Please forgive the sugary white vignette, I tried to get rid of as many other cars as possible, and I also thought a little kitsch would be OK ;-) This was taken at the parking lot of my favourite garden centre that is much more than a garden centre, the "Königliche Gartenakademie", which is very popular for family celebrations as well. By the way, the German nickname for Citroën's iconic 2CV/3CV car line-up is "Ente" (= duck) ;-)

HSoS and HSS, everyone :-) !

Walk with 3-day-beard / 3-tage-bart (thank you for organising this!), bananahh, and magritknapp at the Olympic Village of the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. It's not a typical lost place, as one can't explore it by oneself. There are short guided tours, and much of the area has been sold to investors already (and many buidings are destroyed). Not the gym, however. As our nice and well-informed guide told us, we could still buy it, if we were interested in an old, decayed gym ;-)

The Olympic Village, located 18 kilometres west of Berlin, was designed by Walter and Werner March and built between 1934 and 1936. Even though the Olympic Village was officially labelled "Village of Peace" by the NS authorities, it was designed as barracks for the Wehrmacht from the very start. The building which housed the refectory and kitchens ("40 refectories / kitchens for 40 nations"), for instance, was designed as a hospital and was rebuilt for this originally planned purpose right after the ending of the '36 Summer Olympics.

Processed mostly in Aurora HDR. I wish I had brought a tripod (stupid!), because epecially here at the gym bracketing would have been very useful. Especially the shadows appear rather grainy after brightening them in LR.

As we descend from Sgor Mor, the clouds lift from the mountain tops, clearly revealing The Devils Peak, Cairn Toul, Sgor an Lochain Uaine and Braeriach. The deep valley of Glen Dee leading to the Lairig Ghru marches into the distance. To give a sense of scale, a walkers bothy can just be made out at the foot of Devil's Peak deep in the Glen.

At a height of 2667 feet (813 meters), Sgor Mor doesn't quite qualify as a Munro as it's 333 feet (111 meters) short, but it is a Corbett and offers some great views of the Cairngorms.

Surprisingly empty upper platforms at Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) on a beautiful summer evening. Believe it or not, Berlin Hauptbahnhof is the largest train station in Europe, with approximately 300 000 travellers per day, making it the 4th most frequented train station in Germany (after Hamburg, Munich, and Frankfurt/Main). Or the least frequented, at least on a Saturday evening at 19:39 o' clock. Well, the next train to Zurich from platform 13 wasn't due until 21:04. At least there was a lonely dove, an employee of the Deutsche Bahn AG (in the red hat), shuffling along the platform, and a guy who organized his luggage. And us: Sabine.R, marionrosengarten, --Conrad-N-- and H. Roebke :-)

Rome is the capital of Italy and located in the Lazio region. The city has about 2.8 million inhabitants, the population of the metropolitan region is 3.7 million. The history of the city can be tasted in the many old buildings that the city possesses. Worth seeing are the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, St. Peter's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain and the Victor Emmanuel II Monument. Rome is just one big open-air museum. Throughout the history of more than 2700 years, the city developed into one of the most important cities of Western culture. Rome was the capital of the Roman Kingdom. Rome is located in the Lazio region in the middle of Italy. The city lies on the banks of the Tiber. The center is located on seven hills. In Rome you can not escape a comparison between the past and the present.

Piazza Del Grillo is a charming street in the center of ancient Rome in the Monti district just steps from the Colosseum and Roman Forum. The street takes its name from an ancient Roman family called Del Grillo who owned a beautiful eighteenth century building connected by an overpass in an adjacent medieval Torre delle Milizie, located in the heart of the historic center of Rome, near Trajan's Markets. It gained the popular nickname of "Nero's Tower" from a tradition that it originated as an ancient Roman construction from which Emperor Nero watched the Great Fire of Rome in the year AD 64. It caused widespread devastation.

Rome is gewoon één groot openluchtmuseum.
