"The Rhône Glacier (German: Rhonegletscher/ Valais German: "Rottengletscher") is a glacier in the Swiss Alps and the source of the river Rhône and one of the primary contributors to Lake Geneva in the far eastern end of the Swiss canton of Valais. Because the Glacier is located close to the Furka Pass road it is easily accessible.
Der Rhonegletscher (selten auch Rottengletscher genannt) ist ein Talgletscher im Quellgebiet der Rhone im äussersten Nordosten des Kantons Wallis in den Zentralalpen der Schweiz. Er ist knapp acht Kilometer lang, weist eine durchschnittliche Breite von ungefähr zwei Kilometer auf und bedeckt eine Fläche von ungefähr 16 km². Der Rhonegletscher war vor allem im 19. und Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts aufgrund seiner damals noch weit ins Tal bei Gletsch hinunter reichenden Zunge eine grosse Touristenattraktion. Er schmilzt seit der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts kontinuierlich. Möglicherweise wird er bis ins Jahr 2100 beinahe vollständig verschwunden sein.

Well I guess I start doing it :) coz frankly when I am out of city I always wake up early to catch sunrise but when I return to city :P I become a owl again :( :P I guess tr is many owl friends out tr isn't !
This was another SOOC shot pretty much the wow-est moment of sunrise, I do have lot of other shots which I tried planning and shooting will post them one at a time every morning :)
Its magical how even the boring mobile towers also merge with the landscape which looks as if taken from a Arabian Nights series, the old and new coexist and morning painter manages to paint it in such a way that you don't realize the difference and just get immersed in the morning glow :)

The Landes are a flat sandy low land area at the southwest corner of Aquitaine region featuring the largest European pine forest. For active days there are lakes for boating, swimming, picnic or just observing the wildlife, and several centers for horse-riding, canoing and cycle trails. A lovely Autumn forest with lush brown colored ferns, a majority of them grow in shade. New growth is sometimes reddish or purple, but turns green with age, yellow in autumn, and brown in winter.
Het bos van les Landes is het grootste aaneengesloten bosgebied van Europa. Het is gelegen in het zuidwesten van Frankrijk. In de 19e eeuw werd dit aangeplant en het is nu het beschermde Regionale Natuurpark van de Landes de Gascogne en strekt zich uit van het Bassin d’Arcachon tot diep in de Gers. Tot in de 19e eeuw was het gebied bijzonder dunbevolkt en begroeid met struikgewas. Het bos werd dan ook aangelegd in een poging de plaatselijke economie nieuw leven in te blazen. Hout en papier zijn de voornaamste producten van de lokale economie. Vroeger werd er ook veel hars gewonnen, maar dit product is grotendeels door kunstharsen van de markt verdrongen. Aquitaine is een regio in Frankrijk die populair is bij de Nederlandse vakantiegangers. En dat is niet zo verwonderlijk want het gebied heeft ontzettend veel te bieden. Pushkar (पुष्कर) in Rajasthan is one of the oldest cities of India. The date of its actual origin is not known, but legend associates Lord Brahma with its creation. It is mentioned that Brahma performed penance here for 60,000 years to have glimpse of Radha Krishna. Pushkar boasts of temples, though not many can be considered very old since many were destroyed by Aurangzeb, a Mogul ruler and subsequently rebuilt. The most famous among all is the Brahma Temple, said to be the only temple in the world dedicated to this deity.
Pushkar is famous for its annual Pushkar Cattle Fair, which has over the years become one of the biggest tourist attractions in India. This is usually the quintessential colourful Indian festival which you see in all the Incredible !ndia ads. However, this year was not as joyous for the traders. The global recession combined with the drought hit hard and there were hardly any buyers. The individual stories are sad - with most traders having to leave their cows, camels and horses behind because they can't afford to feed their families, let alone the animals. Yet, the resilience of the people was touching to see - with hope for the future and welcoming to those from the outside.

I haven't been shooting new photos for weeks. Work and travelling is killing me really, I feel like I'm close to a burn out ...So here's another one from the archives. Like the previous post, and this one, and this one and this one, all shot on the same day, April 25 2009. It was a day when conditions were ideal for long exposures...

Was a fantastic sunset a few days back. So good that I jumped away from the desk with my handy point-n-shoot (that I keep in my bag to/from work) and went into one of the unused conference rooms on the West side of the building so that I could get this shot looking over Tokyo station and the Marunouchi business district at dusk.

I just learned something today. I got a very low score in one of my major exams. I have never experienced this in a very long time. I know it’s shallow, but I just feel so down and troubled… I guess I’m in the bottom of the wheel this time around. I wasn’t suppose to post anything until the first week of November because I have to study again, but I felt to sad that I needed an outlet. So please bear with this sad photograph…. And bear the site of me in it too.

Albany Park in Enfield
Not the biggest or the nicest park in the UK, but this particular morning it showed off beautifully. There was this lovely ground mist hugging the floor, swirling around school boys legs as they walked to school and the sun was rising and beaming through the trees ahead of me. I was so LUCKY to catch this shot.

Last Saturday was the day I manned up and added some people to the mix. My 18-55mm is making it really difficult to combine minimalism and people into my photography, so I probably won't attempt many more until I buy a sharper lens. I tried out a friend's 24-105mm f/4L the other day and fell in love... but maybe I'm being a bit too ambitious...

Apesar de nos meses de Verão se armar, frente à Praia da Arrifana, uma armação de pesca, só no reinado de Filipe III (1635) aí se mandou levantar um Forte para defesa dos pescadores, da praia e enseada, sendo Governador e Capitão-Mor do Reino do Algarve, D. Gonçalo Coutinho.
Com o passar dos anos, o forte foi-se progressivamente destruindo, sobretudo devido à acção do tempo e das águas do mar nas marés vivas. Reedificado em 1670, foi em 1755 atingido pelo grande terramoto, tendo ficado profundamente danificado.
Autêntico miradouro natural, daqui poderá desfrutar de uma das mais belas panorâmicas da Costa Vicentina.

In preparation of a free buffet lunch I thought I'd get a little exercise cycling on my wife's battery powered mamachari (bike with large baskets) and came across this unexpected wonderful sunset.
This was taken using my wide angle lense and cropped at the bottom to remove the beach from the shot.
Slightly processed to give a nice cinematic film feel.
I just returned from a road trip to Glacier, Wateron Lakes, Banff & Jasper where there were record low temps. I think the ice and snow on this bighorn sheep represents this quite well :) All in all amazing trip though. You can't beat the Canadian Rockies for breathtaking landscape. Will slowly be adding shots to my stream. Thanks for stopping by! Explored FP & highest position 2 :)

Het Steen is a historic medieval castle in the old city center of Antwerp, Belgium, one of Europe's biggest ports. Built in 1200 - 1225, Het Steen is Antwerp's oldest building.
Previously known as Antwerp Castle, Het Steen gained its current name in around 1520, after significant rebuilding under Charles V. The rebuilding led to it being known first as "'s Heeren Steen" (the King's Stone), and later simply as "Het Steen" (The Stone). The Dutch word "Steen" means "stone", and is used for "castle" or "fortress", as in the "Gravensteen" in Ghent, Belgium.
The castle made it possible to control the access to the Schelde, the river that flows through Antwerp. It was also used as a prison between 1303 and 1827. This was not the noblest time of existence of the Steen Castle. Captivity itself was not punishment - the prison was where you awaited your sentence. Very popular punishment available was; chopping of hands, heads and/or burning and quartering. The prison’s regime was not a very honest one. The rich were logged in the right wing and the poor in the left wing of the castle.
Part of the castle was later demolished to make the roads to connect the south and the north part of the port. The remaining building contains a shipping museum, with outside on displayed on the quay, some real old canal barges.
In 1890 ‘Het Steen’ became the museum of archeology and in 1952 an annex was added to house the museum of the Antwerp maritime history. Here you’ll also find a war memorial to the Canadian soldiers in WWII.
At the entrance to Het Steen is a bas-relief of Semini, above the archway, circa 2nd century. Semini is the Scandinavian God for youth and fertility (with symbolic phallus). A historical plaque near Het Steen explains that women of the town appealed to Semini when they desired children; the god was reviled by later religious clergy. Inhabitants of Antwerp previously referred to themselves as "children of Semini". An organization affiliated with historic preservation of Het Steen and Semini, Antwerp Komitee Semini in Ere (AKSIE), formed in 1986, holds annual celebrations at Het Steen as cultural events. It was a rather calm day there ... I saw no other people visiting the castle. Maybe it is not so famous in Antwerp.

Die Burg Steen am rechten Scheldeufer ist aus dem Mittelalter und die Stadtburg von Antwerpen, Belgien.
Die erste Erwähnung der Burg Het Steen („Der Stein“) datiert auf das 12. Jahrhundert. Damit gilt sie als ältestes erhaltenes Gebäude der Stadt Antwerpen. Die Burg war Teil der Stadtbefestigung und sollte den Zugang zur Stadt aus der Richtung der Westerschelde schützen. Im Jahr 1520 bestimmte Kaiser Karl V., dass die Burg renoviert und umgebaut werden sollte, um Artillerie aufnehmen zu können.
Später wurde die Burg als Gefängnis genutzt. Davon zeugt heute noch das Kruzifix über dem Eingang. Es symbolisiert die Stelle, an der zum Tode verurteilte Verbrecher ihr letztes Gebet vor der Hinrichtung zu sprechen hatten.
Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde die Burg schwer beschädigt, aber im alten Gewand wieder errichtet. Seit 1952 beherbergt sie ein Museum.
Wie bereits erwähnt ist Het Steen, wie die Antwerpener sie nennen, seit 1952 das Nationale Maritime Museum Belgiens. Hier können Schiffsmodelle berühmter, historischer Schiffe, ebenso Malereien, nautische Instrumente, Fotos und Dokumente besichtigt werden. Ebenso betrachtet werden kann das Original des Leichters West Hinder III.
Über den Urzustand der Burg ist wenig bekannt. Die neuere Anlage aus dem 16. Jahrhundert wurde aber nach den Maßgaben des Adels nach mehr Wohnlichkeit erbaut. Der eigentliche Bergfried existiert nicht mehr. Dagegen wurden massive, palastartige Gebäude gebaut. Über dem Haupteingang ist ein Wehrgang angebracht, der mit Pechnasen bestückt ist. Ein massiver Rundturm mit Zinnen sichert den Eingang an der rechten Seite, ein weiterer Rundturm mit Kegeldach und Pechnasen befindet sich links. Seeseitig wurden Bastionen zur Unterbringung der Artillerie eingebaut. Auffällig ist der Baustil der Anlage. Deutlich hanseatisch geprägt sind die stufenförmigen Dachgiebel. (Quelle: Burg Steen)
Es war ein ruhiger Tag ... ich keine anderen Menschen, welche die Burg besichtigten. Vielleicht ist sehr nicht sehr berühmt für Antwerpen.

This photo was taken while waiting for our plane that'll bring me to Iloilo. The flight was supposed to be at 4:30am but was delayed due to some technical problems with our original plane. We were asked to transfer to another plane after the pilot and technicians confirmed that it will take time to fix the first plane's faulty mechanism.
If my memory serves me right, this shot was taken before 6 in the morning while it was raining outside and some dark clouds are coming into view forecasting the catastrophe that will fall on this city about 2 weeks later.

Itaguaçu é um bairro da cidade brasileira de Florianópolis, capital do estado de Santa Catarina. Está situado na porção continental do município, ao sul, entre os bairros de Coqueiros e Bom Abrigo e a baía sul. O nome Itaguaçu é de origem tupi e quer dizer literalmente "Viveiro de Pedras Grandes" ou "Lugar onde há Pedras Grandes". Estas pedras constituem interessantes formações de granito à beira da praia de Itaguaçu e em meio ao mar da baía sul, havendo mesmo uma lenda que conta de bruxas que teriam sido petrificadas, dando origem às pedras, uma das quais parece ter um chapéu, e também há um conjunto de 6 pedras que formam um tipo de um círculo com uma sétima pedra no meio (alusão a ritual satânico)..
This picture was shot hand-held with three exposures (-2..0..+2EV). I used Photomatix to create the HDR with tonemapping and detail enhanced. I increased the overall saturation with Hue/Saturation in Photoshop. Curve adjustment to increase the overall contrast. Unsharp Mask.
This is the view of Fisherman's Wharf from our place of stay. Love the houseboats. A really fun place to walk around and take pictures from. Victoria B.C. is so beautiful.
