MacroMondays Once upon a time.
I have chosen Breadcrumbs to represent the Brothers Grimm Fairy tale - Hansel and Gretel.
Hansel and Gretel are the children of a poor woodcutter. When a great famine settles over the land, the woodcutter's wife decides to take the children into the woods and leave them there to fend for themselves, so that she and her husband do not starve to death, because the children eat too much. The woodcutter opposes the plan but finally, and reluctantly, submits to his wife's scheme. They were unaware that in the children's bedroom, Hansel and Gretel have overheard them. After the parents have gone to bed, Hansel sneaks out of the house and gathers as many white pebbles as he can, then returns to his room, reassuring Gretel that God will not forsake them.
The next day, the family walk deep into the woods and Hansel lays a trail of white pebbles. After their parents abandon them, Hansel and Gretel follow the trail back home. When the wife sees them she is furious and locks them in the house. Hansel and Gretel are unable to escape or even simply collect pebbles.
The following morning, the family treks into the woods. Hansel takes a slice of bread and leaves a trail of bread crumbs for them to follow home. However, after they are once again abandoned, they find that birds have eaten the crumbs and they are lost in the woods. After days of wandering, they follow a beautiful white bird to a clearing in the woods, and discover a large cottage built of gingerbread, cakes, candy and with window panes of clear sugar. Hungry and tired, the children begin to eat the rooftop of the house, when the door opens and a "very old woman" emerges and lures the children inside, with the promise of soft beds and delicious food and a hot bath. They do this unaware that their hostess is actually a bloodthirsty witch who waylays children to cook and eat them.
The next morning, the witch cleans out the cage in the garden from her previous captive. Then she throws Hansel into the cage and forces Gretel into becoming her slave. The witch feeds Hansel regularly to fatten him up. Hansel is smart and when the witch asks for Hansel to stick out his finger for her to see how fat he is, he sticks out a bone he finds in the cage every time. The witch is too impatient and decides to eat Hansel anyway.
The next day, the witch prepares the oven for Hansel, but decides she is hungry enough to eat Gretel too. She coaxes Gretel to the open oven and prods her to lean over in front of it to see if the fire is hot enough. Gretel, sensing the witch's intent, pretends she does not understand what she means. Infuriated, the witch demonstrates and Gretel instantly shoves the hag into the oven, slams and bolts the door shut, leaving "the ungodly creature to be burned to ashes", screaming in pain until she dies. Gretel frees Hansel from the cage and the pair discover a vase full of treasure and precious stones. Putting the jewels into their clothing, the children set off for home.
A duck ferries them across an expanse of water and at home they find only their father who revealed that their mother died from an unknown cause. Their father had spent all his days lamenting the loss of his children and is delighted to see them safe and sound. With the witch's wealth, they all live happily ever after.
Had some cherries and a spare pot of soya cream so what was I to do ? I must admit to it taking a lot of shots just to get this one :) My son even said " I would have given up by now! " But I kept on and was rewarded with this one :) . I used a wireless flash trigger, and one flash. Also a wired shutter trigger so I was able to do both things at the same time.
So, I think, Beau and Buddy are glad I am back at the ranchito...but I am still concerned about Beau...he stares off mindlessly into space and he apparently continues to hear God's voice (with seeming trepidation) and presumably listens to what the Big Dude has to say...in general I am made nervous by people who hear voices and are not taking their meds but with Beau these things are to be expected since he is terribly confused about reality....with only one or two hours, at best, of being awake in a normal 24 hour cycle, his sense of reality is terribly twisted; so perhaps these episodes where I consider him awake, he thinks he is asleep and dreaming and then it is okay to listen to the Big Dude.
Buddy is another issue altogether....he is sort of focused on the here and now..no dreams or Gods for him: he needs to relax a bit; back off from the intensity...kick back Bud!; but that is not his style...basically his attitude captured in this image is: where the fuck have you been? what is your fucking problem? where is fucking dinner.....do it; get on it; and then get the fuck outta my face....
A jumper surfaces and gasps as she comes up in the icy lake water during the Penguin Plunge held at City Beach in Whitefish Montana as part of the City’s annual Winter Carnival. The plunge is held to benefit Special Olympics and is sponsored by Local Law Enforcement agencies and businesses. Over 130 people jumped and raised more than $40,000!
An extremely late entry ... been fishing all day, largely unsuccessful but ... fresh air for the aged ..!! HFF!
The Sage Gateshead is one of my favourite buildings and I’m grateful to have so many opportunities to shoot it.
For a while now I’ve been trying to capture interesting angles of selected parts of the building rather than just shooting it in its’ entirety and surrounding setting. We all know about the beautiful curves of the building but it also has some nice sharp angles which work in great contrast to the curves.
Yesterday was really bright with some pretty quick moving clouds so for the vast majority of the shots I used the Lee Big Stopper so I could leave the shutter open for much longer and capture some cloud movement. I actually also used a 0.9 neutral density hard grad filter across the entire scene just to give me even more length on the shutter speed.
It’s really good to get up close because you get to see how the building is ageing and you can see some great detail.

My friend Dave and I thought we would brave the bitterly cold winters dawn to photograph some Fallow Deer in The Manor Dagnam Park, Harold Hill.
We arrived just after sunrise and were not disappointed as there were several large herds of deer scattered around the estate, Stag and partner on the edge of the woods.
I went to Samba Carnival in Asakusa yesterday.
I wonder why the samba festival is held in Asakusa. However, many lady dances and transportation was good, so I went there.
First, upload a photo with a flashy sushi sign and a samba float.
Surely, the president of this sushi restaurant is a person who buys tuna at the first bid in a year.
I was convinced by the fancy sushi sign.
I have to say that I have never been anywhere and got so many shots that have excited me as my trip out on the tug x-pilot in the smack and sailing barge match last Saturday.......I took around 600 shots, thank goodness it's not on film! and love so many of them! don't worry, I won't bore you all to death, but my message is that if you live local then try to get out there next year!...........please View On Black it makes a lot of difference.
Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a green day at Color my World Daily and this is an awesome reason to celebrate ! Today’s picture was inspired by the green color but also by my inability to take care of plants who were unfortunate enough to find their way in to my house… Yes, I’m very bad with plants and I always forget to water my plants. I always wonder what would happen to my plants if I watered them enough. Maybe something very extraordinary would grow and blossom ? One of a kind plant or flower, a very rare specie which blossoms only once in 2 346 years … Or a money tree…
But, seeing my very dry and dusty plants right now, I can assure that we will never know…
So dont forget to water your plants ! And dont forget that eating one apple a day keeps the doctor away… so water your plants and eat an apple and everything will be great !
Mucho, mucho amor for you all !! See you later!!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !!

At Kathmandu Durbar, Mother and child sat and bath sunlight to get warm together also to see crowd of people walking around. I like the way she carry her own child look so easy but tight.

Gotta love Steptoe Butte for the amazing landscape of flowing curves and shadows. There are thousands of images of this place and like snow flakes, you will not find two alike.

The Roseate Spoonbill is a wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family. This species feeds in shallow fresh or coastal waters by swinging its bill from side to side as it steadily walks through the water, often in groups. The spoon-shaped bill allows it to sift easily through mud. It feeds on crustaceans, aquatic insects, frogs, newts and very small fish ignored by larger waders. The Roseate Spoonbill nests in shrubs or trees, often mangroves, laying 2 to 5 eggs, which are whitish with brown markings. Immature birds have white, feathered heads, and the pink of the plumage is paler. They are extremely agile high in the treetops. (They are often confused with the flamingo)

Not long ago, I spent a rainy afternoon at my favorite bookstore in West Chester, Baldwin's Book Barn (also a favorite place to photograph, of course). :) They have a great collection of antique books, and as I wandered through the shelves, one book in particular caught my eye - a thin volume with worn edges, a black leather cover and ornate gold lettering. A catchy title too: Memorial Addresses on the Life and Character of Marriott Brosius, February 1 - 14, 1902. :)
I'm sure he was a good guy, but that's not why I bought the book.
I flipped through the pages (yes, that great musty smell you'd expect), and toward the back found the delicate surprise you see above -- a small, sweet bunch of four-leaf clovers pressed into the pages. :) I found myself standing there, smiling.
Every now and then I wonder about who put them there, and why. It's impossible to know of course...but I'm sure the last thing he or she could have imagined is that they would someday find themselves here - in front of your eyes and mine, all across the world. I like that.
To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what I'm trying to say by posting this today, with all the looking-backward-moving-forward-ness of New Year's Eve. I guess I just love how this one small gesture of kindness found its way across 104 years to make you smile (hopefully) or imagine a story or stir a fond memory. It reminds me that it is the genuine gestures that last...and there are none too small.
So, dear friends, thankyou for reading this far on a busy New Year's Day. I wish each of you a year filled with health and goodness for you and your families.
As always, please know how deeply grateful I am for the overwhelming kindness and encouragement and creativity you share with me here.
THANK YOU, and Happy New Year. :)

Thank you all for the overwhelming positive response on this photo! I never thought this when I published this picture ... ;-)
Feeling that way out today so taking another look at some shots from earlier in the year whilst out with my brother Alan. This is one I took with my new Sigma 17-70mm, f2.8 lens. We were actually hoping to get some photos of a steam train going across but it was so early that I wasn't ready! Anyway, here's a black and white of the viaduct with a snowy Whernisde rising behind it. I've applied a graduated filter effect to the sky to reduce highlights. Original mode was AV.
I walked among the bones of the old Coventry Cathedral last Autumn. I was alone at the time which gave me the freedom to put my ear upon the cold damp 12th century stone, to feel the cool air whip around it's war savaged corpse...perhaps the 'whisper of ghosts?' It was a peaceful moment for me to be away from my group in all honesty. Although memories can not be re-written they can be enhanced through the thoughts of others. I revisited the war torn skeleton a year later, it's ghosts of shattered past with apocryphal stories of archangels and their battles, an artist and his efforts of hope upon a city in England. A new journey for me, perhaps not in the physical sense but through a shared vision of the events and relics. I urge you to visit goat transforming into a cathedral's bolg The Ecstasy of St. Caprinus for more on Jacob Epstein and Goat's thought provoking analysis that inspired this work.

This is the name of this so important Project I've been visiting, where doctors, dentists and
educators go by boat, visiting many poor communitys along the Tapajós River, places where there are no social public services, developing health, education and communication. Distances in Amazonia are large and the path are usually the rivers.
My friend Carline, a special and happy soul, was playing with some kids and one
of the young community leaders. Carline is a changemaker, as all those amazing
people who are working there.
Are you a changemaker too?
Please, visit this group, and join us here :)
