Black Bear Cub

This is the orphaned Cub we call Annie, she is still out there on her own but looks healthy. Michelle called the Bear Rehab a while back hoping they would rescue her. Conservation came out & were going to dart Annie then take her to the Rehab but she took one look at them climbed down the tree & ran off in the forest. Although she wasn't rescued we hope that if she outsmarted those guys she will survive the winter on her own.

Recently another orphan cub was found in the area, this one even smaller than Annie. Some nice people in our community watched out for her, many phone calls were made & with efforts of all those involved the cub took to a trap & was transferred to the Bear Rehab. Only 29lbs Mid-November. Nice to have a happy ending, hoping for the same ending with a Cub friends found on the weekend.

Orphaned Cubs are showing up all over, but why? Within a 24 hour period 2 Black Bears were found poached in different parts of our province, paws cut off & gallbladders taken. I know this news may be disturbing but it has affected the people in our community, some more than others. I hope with the media involved & people now aware this is happening in our province they can find the poachers before more bears lose their lives.
