Many of the plants in the family of the spice ginger produce inflorescences that flower (usually) from the top part of the inflorescence, as can be seen on the foto preceding this one.

 

Some produce them from the rhizome, as this one shows (emerging from the ground). Others produce the inflorescence from the stems (in the leaves).
