Presenting The Worst Spun Yarn EVER!
I started with "domestic wool" from WEBS. It's full of vegetable matter, roughly in a roving, matted and crushed in places, and not the best fibre by any measure (it is, however, dirt cheap).
From there, I went to the spinning wheel, on which I have what should be considered close to zero experience.
I spun and spun and spun and spun and whee! I spun some more! Thick and thin, underspun, overspun, this has it all! But as I was learning, I'll cut myself some slack.
Then, time to ply! Once I figured out how to keep the different spools from getting entangled in the jumbo flyer (not productive for spinning, very productive for tangling), I spun all three until I ran out, then two until one ran out, then I quit plying.
Eventually I found my niddy-noddy, and wound off the single, the 2-ply, and the 3-ply into three skeins. Washed, thwacked and here they are drying in the shower.
They are horrible.
Inconsistently underplied/underspun/overspun. Whee! It feels as horrible spun as it did in the roving.
I think I can say, without further trials, that this fibre is best for stuffing other things where it won't come in contact with anyone. What I'll do with the yarn is likely make a nice animal mat out of it.
It really is horrible. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Lesson learned!
However, I did enjoy using the wheel. :D
