Priority Line Up

Piles of young families, some elderly people, and me, lined up Saturday for the Priority vaccine in Kitchener. They had allegedly 20 nurses serving over a thousand people. We waited in line for six hours, 5 of those outside in the wind (I have windburn on my face despite wearing a scarf over it).

Many people noted that it would have been better to have 3-4x the number of nurses and facilities. Having hundreds of people standing outside in the late fall weather waiting for a vaccine is lunacy.

The computer went down, the nurses went for lunch (the line didn't move for an hour), and they said they'd stay open until 5 because the nurses would "get tired". That didn't go over very well for the people who were standing in the wind and cold on concrete for hours straight.

It could have been handled far better. I hope they take the lessons from this and apply it to others. Hiring more nurses, for one, and ensuring computer backup, and other essentials.

And for pete's sake, rotating lunches, people. Geez.
