Back from the Dead Box

This is a total rescue job.

Recently I've been copying some of my old "Failures" to see if I can do anything with them and this one I am especially pleased with as I have hardly any shots of Deltics at King's Cross at night.

I'd travelled down overnight behind 40162 from Doncaster with 1E35 to join the RPPR "Penzance Pullman" tour from Paddington. I took this shot before heading to Euston, then Paddington and sadly got it completely wrong; the transparency is massively over-exposed.

This one took an awful lot of work, particularly the manual removal of the dust grains which was painstakingly done over three evenings. They were really evident, even after careful cleaning of the transparency before copying. I've also had to convert it to monochrome as the colour was completely washed out in the original. I've posted some "before and after" shots on my website here:

So, here we have 55010 THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERER throbbing away in the small hours at King's Cross before heading north with 1S12 05:50 King's Cross - Aberdeen on 26th April 1980.
