Ron Hales
First in a loose series of Hull musicians, Ron Hales performing with his band Snake Eye at O'Rileys in Hull on 21st July 2019.
Hull band Red Dirt started in 1970 and released a self-titled album on the Fontana label. After playing numerous dates in London, the band changed their name to Snake Eye. They then toured with many of the top acts at the time including Free, Marc Bolan, The Kinks, Status Quo and J Geils Band.
In 1972 the band went into the studio to record their debut album "The Journey" which was described at the time as a cross between King Crimson and Wishbone Ash. Manfred Mann suggested they were “one of the best bands he had seen” and the world was seemingly their oyster but musical tastes were changing fast and by the end of 1973, with no major label signing, the band folded. Ron went on to play with General Wolf, Nisa, Soulflame and numerous other bands in a near 50-year career.
Ron reformed Snake Eye in 2015 and finally released "The Journey" the following year to favourable reviews.
