Hull Adelphi
The unassuming frontage to a legendary live music venue. The New Adelphi Club in Hull has hosted thousands of bands and acts over the years, including some of the biggest names in music.
Originally a terraced house, it opened as a drinking establishment in the 1920s. The car park was created by the Luftwaffe in 1940 (hence the external decoration) and it became a music venue in 1984 when it was taken over by Paul Jackson who still owns it at the time of posting.
During the late 80s and all through the 90s this was my "spiritual home" and I'd be there most weeks to enjoy a wonderful combination of great music, cheap beer and a unique atmosphere, all crammed into this tiny room.
There are far too many to mention, but some of the more well known bands I saw were Pulp, Pavement, Oasis, Radiohead, Daevid Allen, Beautiful South, Ultrasound and Skunk Anansie. The fact I missed both the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays in 1987 still irks me to this day!
