30061. Eastleigh works 1956.

USA 0-6-0T no. 30061 stands at Eastleigh in 1956 where it has been overhauled and repainted in the current BR black livery. It is possible to see under the new paintwork the previous numbers and lettering of the loco including the original US Army number 1264.

The locos were built in 1942/3 by Vulcan Ironworks and H K Porter. They were purchased by the Southern Railway for use in Southampton Docks in 1947 with all but one loco being built by Vulcan. The exception was 30061 which was constructed by Porter. After replacement by diesels in Southampton Docks, 30061 was renumbered DS233 and shunted at Redbridge Sleeper works until withdrawn in 1967.
