ARC-209 Mk II Arctiidae
So here my entry for the Star wars : evolved contest over at FBTB.
This was built after the ARC-170 starfighter from Episode III. I thought it would be best to take a ship that wasn't too iconic, and I've always liked the ARC-170, and even more so its real life inspiration : the P-61 black widow.
Background :
More than 50 years after the end of the clone wars, a small group of INCOM engineers dug up the old ARC-170 designs, feeling it had potential for a new long range reconnaissance fighter proposal, the result was the ARC-209. Fitted with a Class IV radar, it would fulfill its main role quite well, thanks too oversized engines that made the huge fighter quite agile, some pilots even said it was fit for dogfighting. Though the armament was at first overlooked [Twin cannons on port side and a single Torpedo launcher on starboard] it was later retrofitted with several hard points on the wings, enabling the Arctiidae to take on other roles, such as light bomber, ground support...
Specifications :
Crew : 2 (Pilot, Radar operator/Navigator)
Length : 38 ft 6 in (11.71 m)
Wingspan : 87 ft 3 in (26.6 m)
Height : 10 ft 4 in (3.17 m) [Fuselage]

Armament : Gyrhil 73 twin Laser canons (port)
Krupx MG9 Mk VI Proton torpedo launcher (starboard)
