Calopteryx virgo, male

Calopteryx virgo, male.

The males each defend a territory against other males. This territory ideally has some shady locations where the water flows with a lower speed, and which are fit for laying eggs. Whenever a female visits the territory, the male tries to draw her attention, and also tries to show her the spot he thinks fit for laying eggs.
