Sometimes there is great pleasure in building something simple. That being said, there's no reason this build should have taken me a month or so to build, but it did. Even for all its simplicity, I managed to do a few things I've never done before; good and bad. I've finally committed the third cardinal Lego sin; I painted pieces. I could have sacrificed 30L or so of red 3mm hose and 16 red hands (I've done it in the past), but I just didn't feel like it. So there, I've painted pieces now, but I still try to avoid it at all costs.
The long hood vents presented a different problem that paint could have solved as well, but I used crayon pens instead so the marks are not permanent.
I'm not usually struck by high nose units, but I saw THIS photo and the hook was set. I never saw any high nose units growing up on the L&N (they didn't use them on the M&M division by then), but my first HO engine was a Santa Fe GP7 so maybe there was a bit of nostalgia.
Anyway, here it is, a red and yellow Rock Island GP7. Enjoy!
