Record snowfall
"Portland records snowiest day since 1943, landing at No. 2 on all-time list on February 22. Portland hasn’t seen this much snow all at once in 80 years. Portland International Airport recorded 10.8 inches by Thursday morning, beating out the 9.3 inches that fell over 24 hours in 1956. Since weather record-keeping at the airport began in 1936, the greatest snowfall over a day-long period was 14.4 inches in 1943" (oregonlive.com). As a veteran driver in deep lake effect snow in Upstate New York, it is saying something that this was one of the most treacherous drives of my life and took all my skills to navigate home safely from work.
