London General (Metrobus) 607 on route 181 in Lewisham

In 1984 route 180 was withdrawn between Catford Garage and Lower Sydenham (except for Sundays) and route 181 was created to replace that section. The route started at Lewisham Bus Station and served previously unserved roads as far as Hither Green. The route became a seven day operation along with an extension to Surrey Quays (or Surrey Docks Station as it was then) to replace part of the original route P5 in 1985. It retrenched back to Lewisham in 1990 by which time it ran to Bellingham.

It then got a couple of extensions, firstly to Downham in 1994 and on to Grove Park in 2006 creating the current route.

Metrobus’s London operations are now part of Go-Ahead London and fleet number 607 is seen in Lewisham. This bus is an East Lancs Esteem bodied Scania Omnitown, officially classified as N94UB.
