The City of Arts and Sciences (CAC), City of Sciences in the initial project, is an architectural, cultural and entertainment complex in the city of Valencia. It is also the name of a neighborhood in Valencia and is part of the Quatre Carreres district.
The complex was built in the 90s of the 20th century and the first years of the 21st century. The last major component of the complex, the Palau de les Arts, will be inaugurated on October 9, 2005. The complex is located at the end of the old bed of the Túria river, a bed that became a garden in the 1980s after the diversion of the river by the Gran Riuada de Valencia.
The director architect of the entire complex has been Santiago Calatrava, with collaborations from Félix Candela, which is characteristic for its curvilinear architecture and the use of white cement.
The CAC is, today, the biggest tourist attraction of Ciutat de Valencia, above other attractions, even its historic center. The increase in tourists has been quite noticeable since the works were completed.
