Watzmann Summer from Wiestalstausee
The Wiestal Reservoir is a man-made lake located in the Wiestal valley, which gives it its name, in the Salzkammergut Mountains within the territory of the Austrian municipalities of Puch bei Hallein, Ebenau, and Adnet. It serves as a storage reservoir for the Wiestal pumped-storage power plant (28 MW) operated by Salzburg AG.
The Watzmann is the central mountain massif of the Berchtesgaden Alps. Its highest peak, the Watzmann Middle Peak (2713 meters above sea level), is also the highest point in the German part of the Berchtesgaden Alps. The Watzmann and its subsidiary peaks (the Small Watzmann, also known as the Watzmann Woman, and the Watzmann Children) are surrounded by the legend of the Watzmann. The Watzmann East Face is the highest rock face in the Eastern Alps. Among Germany's main summits, the Watzmann is the third highest.
