"General Averescu is one of the most distinguished of the Rumanian leaders, and was formerly Minister of War. He served during the Balkan War of 1913 as Chief of the Rumanian General Staff. When Rumania declared war (August 1916) Gen. Averescu conducted the invasion of Transylvania which immediately followed. Shortly afterwards he was transferred to the Southern (Dobrudja) Command, and in Oct. 1916 was appointed to the Second Army (Transylvania)."
