Recipe from Madhur Jaffrey's An invitation to indian cooking

 

Green lentils cooked with cinnamon, bay leaf, garlic, ginger, turmeric, lemon juice and tempered with asafetida and cumin

 

I used whey (leftover from paneer) instead of water for boiling the lentils and it got a wonderful, sweet taste.
